JOBTITLE:Head of Strategic Development - Europe


RESPONSIBLE TO: Vice President - Europe, and/or designated delegate


MAIN LOCATION: MAIN LOCATION:Slough, UK or Amsterdam, Netherlands, but the postholder will be required to visit other Countries / sites for the satisfactory performance of their duties and responsibilities.


The Role:


As our Head of Strategic Development for Europe, you’ll identify new business opportunities to generate revenue, improve profitability and help the business grow. Your work will involve careful strategic planning and positioning in the appropriate markets, enhancing the operation of the business, its position in the market and its reputation in the industry.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:


As our Head of Strategic Development, you’ll need to:


  • research and identify new business opportunities - including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, products and services - or new ways of reaching existing markets
  • seek out the appropriate contact in an organization to support the above
  • generate leads and cold call prospective customers
  • meet with customers/clients face to face or over the phone
  • foster and develop relationships with customers/clients
  • understand the needs of our customers and be able to respond effectively with a plan of how to meet these
  • think strategically - seeing the bigger picture and setting aims and objectives in order to develop and improve the business
  • work strategically - carrying out necessary planning in order to implement operational changes
  • draw up client contracts, SLA’s, SOP’s and ensure internal governance and protocol is followed
  • have a good understanding of the businesses’ products and services and be able to advise others about them
  • ensure staff are on board throughout the organisation, and understand the need for change and what is required of them
  • train members of your team, arranging additional training where appropriate
  • discuss promotional strategy and activities with the marketing department
  • liaise with internal departments, the finance team, warehousing and logistics departments as appropriate
  • seek ways of improving the way the business operates
  • assist in planning sales campaigns
  • create sales pipelines
  • negotiate pricing with customers and suppliers
  • increase sales of the business
  • carry out sales forecasts and analysis and present your findings to senior management
  • develop the business sales and marketing strategy
  • attend seminars, conferences, trade shows and events where appropriate
  • keep abreast of trends and changes in the industry

Specific Requirements:


  • Prior, proven experience of selling B2B (business to business) and B2C (business to consumer) within the e-commerce sector
  • Proven experience of working across Europe in multiple Countries
  • Proven Sales and Business Win achievements

Qualifications:


  • Minimum 5 years working in a senior business development/sales role within a similar industry/organisation
  • Experience leading and managing large sales portfolios, pipelines and client base
  • Excellent working knowledge of the Industry
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Excellent project management skills and strong ability to prioritize
  • The ability to speak foreign languages would be advantageous

  • In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the postholder may be required to perform other duties assigned by the Vice President/CEO from time to time. Subject to adequate experience and/or training.
  • To participate in the annual performance appraisal and objective setting scheme.
