Overview:

The Forward Trust, are a UK leading provider of drug and alcohol treatment services to offenders. We deliver treatment and recovery support – in prisons and in the community – which helps people move away from addiction and crime. These services provide a variety of support, including advice, counselling, group work and intensive treatment. At The Forward Trust we believe that all people who are addicted to or misusing substances should have access to support which is effective in protecting their health, and motivating them to take steps towards their own recovery. Over 20 years of pursuing this mission, we have been successful in moving thousands of drug dependent offenders away from a lifestyle revolving around crime, and drug or alcohol dependence.

What you will be doing?:

The Recovery & Reintegration Worker will assess the clients, track them throughout their sentence, ensuring that there are comprehensive release plans in place, and meets them upon release to “hand-hold” them through the first 24 hours following release, assertively linking them into treatment and support resources, like AA/NA meetings. A holistic release plan will be drawn up with the offender (in conjunction with prison based teams) in order that all necessary referrals can be made prior to release, and care pathways established for each individual client.

  • Develop links with local housing providers to minimise the number of clients released with no fixed abode.
  • Liaise with medical services, where appropriate, to ensure clients have access to any necessary medical care upon release
  • Provide advice and support to the Drug and Alcohol Practitioners in their area in order to ensure the continuity of care for each client who comes into contact with Forward service are met.
  • Undertake assessments of clients in prison, to co-facilitate pre-release groups in order to develop comprehensive release plans for our clients.
  • Develop links with other relevant agencies that offer aftercare support across England ensuring clients have access to appropriate support post-release regardless of their area of release.
  • Liaise with drug treatment providers in the community, ensuring clear care pathways for clients leaving custody.
What we are looking for?:
  • A thorough knowledge of, the needs of clients within custody and who are engaged in Criminal Justice services, together with knowledge of addiction approaches.
  • Significant experience of providing addiction services to this or a similar client group.
  • Managing own workload effectively to deadlines and targets.
  • Experience and knowledge of different approaches to working with drug users.
  • Experience of working with community based agencies both voluntary & statutory.
