Rail Operations Transformation Lead - Initial 6 Month FTC

What is the key purpose of this role?

This is a specialist role providing rail operations knowledge to support the rail modernisation programme and rail business more broadly. They will own design, delivery and change integrity for all elements of their programme, with input from relevant design and change experts, and with benefits and project support from the central portfolio. They will be advocates for an agile, people change and outcomes / benefits led transformation environment, working iteratively and in short sprints to drive pace and momentum. This role will ensure interdependent objectives and outcomes are clearly defined across their own programme and the whole transformation portfolio; accountability for all activities being achieved within the agreed time, cost and quality parameters; providing constant visibility of progress via appropriate reporting mechanisms. This role will bring their experience to bear as part of the rail leadership team in driving locally led improvements outside of the rail modernisation programme.

  • Significantly qualified by experience in Senior Rail Operations Leadership position/s.
  • Extensive experience of all aspects of rail operations, especially in rail freight.
  • Experience of leading, designing and driving transformational change.
  • Proven track record of strong cross functional engagement, aligning project teams around common outcomes where no formal line management authority exists.
  • Natural tendency to be able to coach and support others to embrace both the agility and the underpinning structure, process and governance required for effective oversight.
  • Desire and ability to work at pace, in a fast-moving environment, comfortable with change and iteration.
