We currently deliver infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects for 10 of the largest national water sector companies.

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, a vacancy has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor, working within our Water division. You will work alongside the contract delivery team to ensure the profitability, cost control, cash management, contractual compliance and accurate reporting of Infrastructure and / or Non-Infrastructure (civil engineering & MEICA) projects.

What you’ll be doing day to day

Undertaking regular cost to complete (CTC) reviews with the contract delivery teams

Undertaking monthly cost and value reconciliations as part of the project financial reporting process

Reviewing project programmes and produce detailed CTC forecasts

Supporting the contract delivery teams to maximise value and minimise cost; ensuring that appropriate controls are in place to monitor and manage the operating cost base

Promoting commercial challenge at all times to contract delivery teams

Working with the operational teams to deliver and manage performance against the Profit Improvement Plan

Ensuring the contract delivery team are briefed and have sufficient commercial support to monitor and react to budget variances

Reviewing of contract documents to ensure that the company is protected from onerous terms and conditions

Managing contract commercial aspects with the client including compensation events, extension of time, completion requests, etc.

Preparing and assisting with the evaluation and submission of quotations for variation works

Assessing contract risk and work with the site team to develop and manage mitigation plans

Managing commercial performance against business targets and Framework KPI’s

Ensuring cash flow is maximised and debt levels minimised

Undertaking final account negotiations to achieve the best possible outcome for nmcn

Issuing sub-contract tender packages and undertake contractual evaluation of the tender returns

Negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors

Managing the commercial aspects of subcontract accounts from procurement to final account agreement; including change management, payment assessments, instructions, notifications, accruals and completion documentation

Supporting the proposals team to evaluate risk and opportunity during tender preparation

Attending post tender, pre-contract, project handover and progress meetings

Attending internal and external commercial review meetings

Working with the commercial and operational teams to strive for continuous improvement

Ensuring the group commercial policies are adhered to and that the requirements of legislation are met

Providing people management, support and development of Trainee and / or Assistant Quantity Surveyors The experience we’re looking for in a candidate

Construction experience in the Water Industry is preferable

Having a Civil Engineering or M&E background

An industry applicable qualification

Commercial and contractual awareness with a proven track record of success

Full working knowledge of the NEC3 & 4 suite of contracts

A good level of competency of Microsoft packages

Be able to organise yourself and others workload
