Our Barnstaple facility is located in North Devon. Founded in 1948, the site now employs approximately 160 employees and features the Aero Stanrew brand of electromagnetic components, printed-circuit board assemblies, cabinet wiring and electronic test equipment for safety critical applications in aerospace and defence, industrial and transportation industries.

Overview Of Role

Role Overview and Responsibilities

To manage the Quality Management System to ensure that customers receive product to the highest standard of quality possible. To drive continuous improvement throughout the organisation ensuring that problems are prevented. To ensure a customer focus throughout the organisation at all times. Ensure product is correctly released to necessary standards.

Requirements Of The Role
  • Provide solid leadership to the quality department and team. Manage, develop and motivate an effective Quality team
  • Manage all aspects of Business Unit Quality
  • Work with Operation and Business Unit Management to integrate Quality objectives into business objectives.
  • Develop Quality Improvement strategies for the BU.
  • Monitor Business Unit Cost of Quality (COQ), customer complaints, and other Quality indicators and drive projects to eliminate recurring issues as well as address special events in order to drive an overall improvement.
  • Implement effective process and product control strategies such as PFMEA, control plans, Measurement Systems Analysis, Statistical Process Control, Production Part Approval Process, Layered Process Audits and Finished Goods audits where necessary.
  • Develop and implement ISO procedures at the Business Unit and Divisional level to improve flexibility, compliance, standardization across multiple facilities and overall effectiveness.
  • Perform Internal ISO and Supplier Quality audits as necessary to ensure compliance with policies and expectations.
  • Lead and train others to develop effective corrective and preventive actions using 8D and Mistake Proofing concepts in response to customer concerns, COQ data or regular product audit results.
  • Lead, participate and facilitate various continuous improvement events and projects to support company goals and objectives. Lead cultural change utilizing appropriate continuous improvement tools and methodologies (PDCA, Six Sigma, Mistake Proofing, kaizen, etc).
  • Utilize strong interpersonal skills to communicate and engage support for driving COQ improvement across various functions and levels within the Business Unit and Division
  • Ensure that all process required for the Quality Management System are established, implemented and maintained.
  • Chairing and organising Management Reviews to ensure the continuing suitability and effectiveness of the Quality Management System and to assess any improvement opportunities for the Quality
  • Promote the awareness of customer requirements throughout the organisation and develop effective customer relations.
Qualifications, Skills And Attributes

Competency

Coaching and influencing skills. Continuous Improvement Skills such as FMEA, SPC, 8D, MSA. Greenbelt, Blackbelt and/or Lean Expert Certification preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills. Good analytical skills. Demonstrated organizational, planning and program management skills with careful attention to detail. Ability to build trusting relationships and communicate effectively at all levels. Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities while working effectively in a team. Environment. Ability to communicate ideas with clear understanding of audience and gain commitments that are critical to the success of the organization. Good computer skills with competency in using MSOffice suite and other software as necessary

Qualification/Skills/Personal Qualities – CORE

Qualifications: Degree educated (preferably in Electrical Engineering) or equivalent technical degree. Several years of technical experience to include Quality Management Systems, in a technical environment, and 3 years of leadership may be substituted.

Electronic EngineeringEnvironmentAS9100 QS 9000, ISO 9000, TS16949, previous Quality Management experience, (Automotive & Military Customers, Supplier Management), successful improvement projects.

Qualifications/Skills/Personal Qualities – Desirable
  • Led an implementation of QM change e.g. AS9100
  • Black Belt accredited to Lean Six Sigma
  • Led an introduction of QA tools e.g. SPC
  • Experience of leading an improvement project in customer quality
