The Rosalind Franklin Laboratory (RFL) is publicly owned and operated by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and is at the heart of the UK’s response to managing the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. RFL is the largest facility of its kind in the UK, and one of the largest in Europe. Using cutting-edge technology, the lab has processed millions of PCR tests since opening in June 2021. The lab continues to play a vital role in stopping the transmission of COVID-19, as well as ensuring the nation can respond quickly and at greater scale to deal with pandemics and other future health threats. The role

You will have significant experience in operating within ISO Quality Management Systems of operational laboratory environments, with relevant ISO accreditation standards ISO 15189, ISO 17025, ISO 9001. You will also have familiarity with the ’Ideagen Qpulse’ Quality Management System (preferable) and expertise in liaising with internal and external stakeholders on all areas of quality and compliance. Additionally, experience in conducting audits and hosting external auditors is essential.

Key Accountabilities
  • Supported continuous improvements in Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Work with managers and their teams to maintain all aspects of the QMS
  • Provide support as required for all notified bodies/UKAS and client audits
  • Work with other QA staff to provide all the support required by the Operations teams
  • Perform internal audits according to the provided schedule
Skills & Experience
  • Relevant Degree
  • Minimum of 5yrs post qualification experience within a commercial or NHS laboratory
  • Previous laboratory experience within a quality role is essential
  • Strong working knowledge & experience of ISO15189 & ISO17025
  • Detail orientated
  • Ability to gain support within a matrix organisation whilst dealing with diverse departments
  • Ability to work at a fast pace and embrace change
  • Supported continuous improvements in Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Worked with managers and their teams to maintain all aspects of the QMS
  • Provided support as required for all Notified Bodies/UKAS and client audits
  • Worked with other QA staff to provide all the support required by the Operations teams
  • Performed internal audits according to the provided schedule
  • Significant managerial experience dealing with large, diverse teams and performance issues, including direct line management and lab team lead experience
  • Demonstrated capability to build a new lab-based team and rapid scale up of operations
  • Experience of maintaining documents and working within laboratories accredited to current or recent ISO standards.
  • Ability to solve complex problems under pressure and use initiative to promptly make informed decisions
  • Able to work effectively as a member of a team demonstrating excellent communication and team work skills
  • Able to act as a role model demonstrating a respectful and inclusive attitude towards colleagues
  • Able to deal with people and situations in a patient, objective manner
