The Opportunity

At this time we are recruiting for a Quality Management Lead (QML) to ensure HPC Project quality requirements are complied with across the full project life-cycle (Contract award, Design, Procurement, Manufacture, Test, Shipping, Construction/Installation, Test/Commission and Contract close out). This is an exciting opportunity to join the Quality Management Team in the Quality Department, responsible for acting as the ‘Intelligent Customer’, in the capacity of ensuring that quality arrangements are in place, and effectively implemented by the supply chain to control manufacturing activities across the HPC delivery programmes.


For a given portfolio of work, the QML is the single point of contact (SPOC) for all quality related elements associated with the supply chain, day to day reporting is to the Quality Delivery Manager (QDM) who sets out their Programme quality requirements. Based at Bridgwater there will also be occasional travel required both inside and outside of the UK to meet with our suppliers. The post holder will work in close collaboration with all other project functions and the supply chain to ensure that project quality is delivered consistently (safely, efficiently and right first time) compliant with the scope of work and quality arrangements.

The delivery of HPC Project is split across six programmes of works to which the Quality Department provides quality related services including:


  • Supporting the Head of Quality and their programme in achieving adherence with the Integrated Management System arrangements, putting in place additional project-specific arrangements as required and managing quality for all activities within the scope of the programme.
  • Ensuring products and/or services are provided right first time in line with the HPC Project Goals, ensure effective resolution of issues and implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Performing joint inspections with contracted inspection entities, in line with their own NNB Surveillance Plans to oversee inspection performance, carrying out surveillance on manufacturing documentation in accordance with the Manufacturing Surveillance Document Strategy.
  • Supporting the development of quality (QA/QC) arrangements for deployment across the HPC organisation.


The Person


We are seeking a highly motivated Quality Lead to manage and demonstrate the ability to innovate and think laterally to assure that the organisational learning processes are efficient and effective. We’ll value your existing skills and experience while providing the opportunity for individuals to implement the quality execution plan within the Programme and undertaken reviews and checks to ensure quality is delivered by the supply chain efficiently and in accordance with programme quality requirements.

We are offering an opportunity to be a part of EDF’s ambitions to coordinate and lead the NNB review and acceptance of relevant quality documentation, perform in-factory manufacturing inspection when required (UK, France or worldwide). Ensuring supplier quality control requirements are adequately specified within contract documentation submitted in the Invitation to tender, produce quality documentation (e.g. learning reports, lessons learnt reviews) as required including regular reporting to the Quality Management Manager.

What does being a Quality Management Lead mean?


  • Review, accept and monitor CQAPs provided by the supply chain and support Quality Auditors in the prompt resolution of audit findings within the supply chain.
  • Ensure quality management processes are correctly applied and the supply chain quality outcome is achieved using Project Quality Control Plans.
  • Supporting the determination and application of strategies for the progressive provision of Life Time Quality Records (LTQR) by contractors and lead implementation of LTQR reviews.
  • Ensure manufacturing surveillance per contract is applied in a graded approach through surveillance offers and performance monitoring of inspection agencies.
  • Coordinate, monitor and improve the efficiency of manufacturing documentation review and inspection activities performed by sub-contracted inspection agencies.
  • Support the monitoring and technical resolution of manufacturing non-conformances including the management of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Responsible for the review and delivery of the end of manufacturing records, leading to the quality release of equipment to the HPC construction site.
  • Support the review and acceptance of End of Manufacturing Reports (EoMR), End of Construction Status Reports (ECSR) and End of Erection Status Reports (EESR).


The Skills


Qualifications & Experience


  • A HNC/HND qualification or degree in a relevant science or engineering subject, or equivalent qualification.
  • Proven leadership experience working in a quality assurance/control environment within the nuclear industry or other relevant safety critical industry.
  • Broad experience of implementing a variety of quality related solutions.
  • Proven experience of interaction and resolving issues with a wide range of stakeholders in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Experience in project delivery, preferably in the nuclear power sector, with significant focus on project quality.
  • Engineering background (Mechanical, Electrical or HVAC)
  • Solid understanding of the Quality Assurance and Quality Control in major projects across engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction and commissioning.

Knowledge & Skills

  • A clear and considerable understanding of quality management best practice for deployment by large, complex and contract-led organisations.
  • Confident and articulate communicator, able to prepare presentation material, and comfortable addressing individuals, small groups and very large audiences.
  • Able to support and implement practical solutions, whilst remaining open to the ideas of others.
  • Experience of interfacing with project teams and with supply chain organisations.
  • Analysis of data, preparing reports and making recommendations, ability to influence and to provide constructive challenge which is accepted by others.
  • The ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
