Due to continued growth we are looking for a Quality Engineer

Role Objective

The role of a Quality Engineer is to ensure that all products including incoming products and internally produced components meet the quality standards required by the customer and the organisation.

To be responsible for auditing the production process in line with the PPAP method and QMS. Provides support any identifying and raising quality issues internally, and to ensure a prompt resolution to the issues found.

To ensure that all engineering and production activities are co-ordinated and controlled, and all continuous improvements are driven via OEE data.

Specific Responsibilities

>Lead all quality-related issues within the manufacturing team, internal, customer and supplier issues

  • Coordinate and instruct the quality inspection team.
  • Be the champion of 8D for all internal, customer and supplier issues, ensuring effective 8D methodology is used including in depth Ishikawa and 5 Why
  • Be the direct contact to all customers when a quality issue is reported, ensuring the issues are robustly contained, and all concern closure timings are adhered to

>Ensure compliance and assist with adherence to the Quality Management system (QMS)

  • Ensure training is provided to all personnel on specific QMS procedures and training records are maintained
  • Assist with first off sample approvals
  • Write product test procedures
  • Confidence to stop production in the event of manufacture of unacceptable goods/processes

>Ensure all

  • Standard operating procedures are up to date and accurately describe standards required.
  • Ensure all personnel working to Quality processes and procedures are trained and signed off as being competent
  • Controlled documents are registered on the database and issued as required.

>Lead all Quality control related tasks

  • Ability to review and interrogate customer design records such as 3D CAD, engineering drawings, engineering specifications
  • Ensure all customer design requirements are being checked to confirm product conformity
  • Ability to be able to understand CMM measurement reports, and competent to measure all features using alternative equipment such as height gauges, micrometers, verniers, Scan or form-trace machines, in line with CAD or drawings

>Conduct product and process audits

  • Ensuring that all quality and in process checks are conducted as planned.
  • Lead process and LPA audits, ensuring KPI’s in place to address audit performance
  • Ensure control plans, PFMEAs and associated documentation are implemented effectively and maintained – Great knowledge of PFMEA process
  • Ensure products are being manufactured in line with customer requirements
  • Lead Layout inspection audits for parts relevant to the business unit

>Undertake all quality engineering activities for new products using the APQP / PPAP / FAIR

>Monitor, report & lead improvement actions on quality-related key performance indicators including scrap monitoring, rework levels, parts per million (PPM) figures

  • Maintain and display quality performance indicators (QOS) – Communicate these out to the business that shows exactly how areas of the manufacturing unit/business is performing in relation to Quality, including cost of non-Quality
  • Lead Quality performance reviews with the manufacturing team to drive accountability
  • Implement actions to address poor performance

>Drive continuous improvement for product/process quality issues by

  • Conducting root cause analysis
  • Instigating permanent corrective & preventative actions, ensuring effectiveness if actions is confirmed via usage of data

>Manage all measurement equipment

  • Ensuring that all measurement equipment is registered calibrated and maintained.
  • Ensuring MSA studies are conducted in line with the MSA procedure

>Liaise and effectively communicate with internal and external colleagues to resolve quality issues.

  • Prompt and efficiently as possible to prevent compromising quality and safety standards

>Assist on all lean initiatives

  • 5S principles
  • Lean Six Sigma
  • Statistical Process Control

> Take an active role in meetings and problem-solving activities such as:

  • Quality concerns
  • Production performance
  • Breakdowns and Interventions
  • Manning and resource
  • Production none conformities

>Assess the competency levels of all trainees and review with Quality Manager/Head of Quality where appropriate.

  • Assist with training of quality awareness
  • Sign off training completion where appropriate

>Liaise and communicate with other departments, customers, suppliers and other service providers

  • Support regular inspection meetings with representatives from appropriate departments to establish an action plan for improving build quality

>Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and contribute to team working initiatives

  • Coordinate and instruct the quality inspection team when needed
  • Provide production assistance and support to team members
  • Mentor/Support less experienced technicians and trainee engineers
  • Train people within own work group if needed

>Accomplish production and organisational effort by completing related results as needed.

>Participating in various training opportunities as and when needed

>Keep up with current and developing manufacturing and engineering trends that concern product quality

>Maintain effective working relationships with all internal colleagues

>Proven experience of successfully working within an engineering focused environment which incorporated elements

  • DailyOEE Status with action plans in place. Short term actions.

RAG Status / Escalation in daily stand ups.

Weekly quality metrics in line with QMS.

  • MonthlyOEE Status with action plans in place. Long terms strategic actions.

Monthly management report as set out by line manager

Meetings responsible for:

  • Weekly OEE review
  • Monthly management report.

Personal performance review:

  • Performance to your objectives and specific responsibilities detailed within this document are to be reviewed with the Business unit manager on a bi-monthly basis
