The QHSE Support Officer is part of the Group QHSE Department. There is a requirement for significant travel throughout the UK. This position has no direct reports, although on Safety / Quality matters is the Company authority.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not exclusive to: Assisting the Group Health and Safety Manager in supporting the group in working to Health and Safety (HSW 1974 as amended), ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001 and any industry-specific and H&S accreditations; and Environmental issues.

At all times, Health and Safety work has priority over all other duties. This is a legal requirement of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. The prime responsibility, therefore, is to ensure Hydro-X Group and its employees meet all current legislative requirements regarding Health and Safety, as a minimum, but working towards best practice at all times.

Health and Safety
  • To promote Health and Safety internally and externally through:
    • Input into the Company H&S Policy Statement that is to be reviewed annually.
    • Attend the Monthly H&S Meeting
    • Supporting the provision of a centralised H&S resource.
    • Constantly check and update company policies and procedures such that they take account of and reflect new and update legislation.
    • Ensure that all staff adopt and work using best practice in the execution of tier duties, highlighting through H&S Meetings, or Management Meetings, concerns in breaches of best practices, H&S policy or procedure.
    • Provide support internally and externally in cases where the HSE are either undertaking Audits or Investigations as our client’s sites.
Training
  • Ensure that you maintain an appropriate level of CPD to maintain your knowledge of H&S legislation. Additionally, you should:
    • Support the provision of a package of training that ensures all staff can undertake their duties and tasks in a safe working manner and meet the needs of our clients. Including an overview of H&S company requirements at staff inductions.
    • Maintain a record of all staffs training – indicating current status of in or out of date.
    • Develop and deliver a range of ‘Tool Box Talks’ to all operational and sales staff as required.
Accidents & Investigations

Through the promotion and proactive to reporting near misses & accidents, look at and investigate the circumstances of all reported accidents and near misses while, remaining conscious at all times of the requirements of RIDDOR. Distributing via the weekly ops meeting, Monthly H&S Meeting and or bi-weekly Management Meeting the outcome of those investigations undertaken; the Board will receive copies of al reports through the QHSE Monthly Report. Additionally, reviewing as required the current H&S practices and procedures to avoid, where possible, a repeat incident.

Compliance

Supporting the Group Health and Safety Manager in ensuring that the company remains compliant in all areas of H&S paying attention to:
  • The provision of up-to-date COSHH assessments for all hazardous chemicals in use.
  • Maintain the services of a competent ADR transportation company; ensuring that our policy and procedures for the transportation of ADR goods remains up to date.
  • Ensure that all own brand and bought in products comply with the latest labelling legislation.

ISO 9001/ ISO14001 / ISO45001 Quality Management

Maintain and promote throughout the company Quality Management System (QMS) that is complaint and adheres to the requirements of the ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 systems of internal and external auditing. Reporting any transgressions from the QMS to the Group Health and Safety Manager as required. Ensure that the company is prepared fully for and host the Annual review of the QMS by the external auditors.

Accreditations

Support the Group Health and Safety Manager in ensuring that working practices of the Company, in all areas of H&S and QMS allow the retention of accreditations that are deemed as required.

Environmental Matters

To ensure that the Company operates and delivers its services in a manner that is compliant fully with current Environmental Legislation and Regulations and ISO14001. Where necessary change and amend current practices and procedures to reflect changes in legislation. Additionally, provide training to all staff on environmental issues as required.

Additional Responsibilities Under H&S
  • Assist the Group Health and Safety Manager with proactive monitoring to ensure that all company devices: thermometers and probes remain calibrated and functioning fully and correctly.
  • Undertake site visits and audits at our client’s sites as required.
  • Responsible for complying with the requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Management Policy
  • Responsible for complying with the requirements of the Environmental Management System Policy

Accountability
  • The focus of the QHSE Support Officer should be such that the level of Risk to the Company and that of its clients is constantly monitored and minimised wherever possible and that all reasonable and practicable steps are taken to reduce the risk of a breach to H&S Legislation.
  • Supporting the Group Health and Safety Manager in managing the business’s Occupational Health & Safety Management System and for implementing the Occupational Health & Safety Management System Policy within their area of control or influence.
  • Supporting the Group Health and Safety Manager in managing the business’s Environmental Management System and for implementing the Environmental Management System Policy within their area of control or influence.
  • Supporting the Group Health and Safety Manager in managing the business’s Quality Management System and for implementing the Quality Management System Policy within their area of control or influence.
  • Responsible for complying with the requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Management Policy.
  • Responsible for complying with the requirements of the Environmental Management System Policy.
  • Responsible for complying with the requirements of the Quality Management System Policy.
