Are you looking to start your career in finance, within an innovative accountancy firm?

Do you want to start your accountancy studies with the opportunity to gain experience while you learn?

Perhaps you’ve already started your studies and are looking to join a team to further your knowledge within finance?

Virgate provides a full-service finance team to clients across multiple sectors from retail and hospitality, bars and restaurants to hotels, pubs, gyms and even clients from the professional services sector. We use leading edge technology translating accounts in a clear manner through honest communication, building partnerships with our clients that thrive on trust and a tailored service. We are looking for an enthusiastic Purchase Ledger Clerk (Junior) to become part of our fast-growing team as we continue to onboard new clients.

The Role:
As a Purchase Ledger Clerk you’ll report into our Accounts Payable Manager, and be responsible for a range of bookkeeping and purchase ledger duties for your designated clients.

Initially, you’ll shadow our support team and existing Purchase Ledger Clerks to learn about all of our internal systems and processes, as well as how we interact with clients and support with client queries.

As you settle in, you’ll be supporting our Management Accountants across a specific portfolio of clients ensuring each client’s month-end bookkeeping tasks are completed in a timely manner.

You’ll work within the client inboxes delivering on all the day-to-day purchase ledger and bookkeeping duties, as well as acting as the main point of contact for phone and email based support queries.

Over time, you’ll be given further Purchase Ledger Clerk responsibility within your portfolio, including facetime with clients, and more complex client specific tasks assisting the Management Accountant within your team.

Additionally, we offer the opportunity for you to gain industry certifications such as AAT, ACCA or CIMA alongside your career at Virgate.

Experience Needed:
First and foremost, you’ll need to have the ambition to grow a career within finance. This can be demonstrated through previous experience, studies, training or general interest.

You’ll be managing your own workload, working independently as a Purchase Ledger Clerk, so it’s important that you are reliable. Although much of your work will be independent, we expect you to be a team player and support other team members when needed.

Being organised with the ability to multitask will be key for this Purchase Ledger Clerk position.

You’ll be dealing with urgent client queries and support calls, so it’s important that you are confident in your communication and can remain professional at all times.

Additionally, you’ll be working within our client inboxes, so you’ll need to hold an excellent level of written English.

Finally, it would be desirable, although not essential, if you have previous experience working within an office environment, or a finance related role.

The Benefits:
Be part of a team that delights clients with a helpful and friendly approach to providing the service.

We give you the tools to build a successful career. This is a fantastic pathway to gaining your finance and accounting qualifications and valuable knowledge of the industry.

You’ll have the opportunity to work with the latest technology in accounting on complex projects for a range of Retail and Hospitality businesses.

  • Core working hours of 10am-4pm. Start your working day early or late in the morning, whatever works best for you and your clients.
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • You will get your birthday off as paid leave on top of the normal annual leave allowance.
  • We care about your health and wellbeing and pay your subscription to our Health Cash Plan

  • Meet socially with the team every quarter to do something fun, whether that’s crazy golf, a comedy night or just a meal out, all paid for by Virgate!
  • Earn while you learn - AAT, ACCA or CIMA qualifications supported.
  • Opportunities for more responsibility as the company grows.
  • Cycle to work scheme.
