We are seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to be responsible for co-ordinating all of the volunteering opportunities within our Rehoming Centre’s operations.

Dogs Trust is the largest dog welfare charity in the UK with a nationwide network of rehoming centres and charity shops. Last year, Dogs Trust centres cared for over 9,000 dogs; we never put a healthy dog down.

Our rehoming centres house thousands of dogs each year until they are able to find a loving new home and the success of our centres wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated team of staff and volunteers; there is a real family-community within each of our centres. Come rain or shine, our team are out in all weathers to make sure the dogs have the best possible life. Dealing with thousands of visitors each month, our rehoming centres are the face of Dogs Trust and we pride ourselves on our staff providing the very best in customer service.

In this role you will recruit, select and induct new volunteers, providing support throughout their volunteer journey with us. As part of the wider Dogs Trust volunteering strategy, you will play a key role in ensuring best practice is followed, achieving high volunteer standards. A strong relationship manager, you’ll build relationships with staff across the centre, the Volunteering Development team and the wider organisation to deliver an excellent volunteer experience. Where volunteers are shared across services, you will liaise with the Supporter Relations Officer, over occasional volunteer support for fundraising activities, the Home from Home Coordinator in support of our home fostering service and, where appropriate, with the local Dogs Trust Charity Shop Managers over any volunteers shared between the shops and the rehoming centre.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of customer care and the role of volunteers in an organisation, including their integration, management and motivation. You’ll have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and strong leadership skills with ability to engage and work effectively with large groups of people with varying backgrounds and skill levels. You will also have a positive attitude, methodical approach to work with the ability to work under your own initiative. But above all a passion and commitment to work and the goals of Dogs Trust. A full, manual, UK driving licence is also required.

To apply for this position, please send your CV and cover letter explaining your interest in and suitability for the role by clicking the APPLY NOW button.

At Dogs Trust we value diversity and we’re committed to creating an inclusive culture. We actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, abilities and cultures and believe that a diverse workforce will help us to achieve our mission. Should you need any adjustments to the recruitment process, either at application or interview stage, please contact us on jobs@dogstrust.org.uk.
