Real Estate Finance (REF) is a commercial real estate (CRE) lending group within the firm’s Securitised Products Groups (SPG), a component of the Investment Bank.
REF’s business can be summarised as secured (i.e. mortgage) lending to hold on balance sheet or either a syndication or securitisation exit. We also act in an arranger capacity bringing borrowers and lenders together. Further we act on acquisition or lending against performing, sub-performing and non-performing CRE loans as well as interacting with various areas of the bank to deliver real estate solutions to clients.

We lend against all the main property classes including; office, retail, logistics and multi-family residential as well as operating business where real estate is a key factor e.g. hotels and student accommodation.

Our geographical focus is within EMEA and APAC. Our clients include; financial sponsors, institutional investors, financial institutions, operating business and property companies.

Key Duties

Loan Asset Management:

  • Provide loan asset management to the existing loan book and onboarding of new loans;
  • Produce Quarterly Management reports, detailing the current loan positions and changes;
  • Analyse and respond to Borrowers requests on waivers, asset sales, extensions;
  • Coordinate the Loan repo book, including preparing recommendations on new loans;
  • Liaising with internal stakeholders for sign off and approval.

Book management:
  • Verify the risk and P&L of the desk on a daily basis;
  • Follow changes to funding and capital methodology applicable to the desk by liaising with treasury, product control and capital teams;
  • Update models used by desk to reflect latest changes.

New loans:
  • Assist with real estate and loan underwriting and financial modelling of deals;
  • Preparation of deal proposals for internal committees;
  • Coordinate interaction with internal teams, credit, valuation, middle office.

  • Very good attention to detail, strong analytical skills;
  • Advanced modelling skills and strong report writing skills;
  • Judgement skills and experience to undertake risk analysis;
  • Questioning and robust negotiating skills;

Key Experience/Qualifications
  • Knowledge of structured lending;
  • Experience of real estate lending and loan asset management.
