Overview:

Our business is growing fast, we are in the process of launching new brands and have a pipeline bursting with pioneering innovations. To help us deliver these ambitious product plans, we are looking for a R&D Manager to lead the formulation team in Belgium and deliver the innovation pipeline.

Responsibilities:

• Managing the formulation team
• Ensuring continued professional and technical development of the individual members of the formulation team in EU
• Building a strong team mentality ensuring a learning culture, flexibility and collaboration
• Managing resources across multiple objectives and projects
• Managing the product development process
• Ensuring on-time delivery of the product development commitments of the team
• Communicating progress with the project teams and bringing a solutions mindset
• Ensuring new products stay true to the formulation and ingredient strategy for each brand
• Working with the Category and Brand managers to develop an innovation strategy that will deliver against the long term goals of LSB
• Communicating and embedding the strategy across the business.
• Making your strategy a reality by executing through the teams.
• Managing pre-pipeline innovation activity within the formulation team ensuring a steady stream of new ingredients, product formats and opportunities to feed into the pipeline.
• Working with external raw material, product and technology suppliers to source new innovation
• Managing product testing, claims validation and product specs
• Ensuring full product specs are available for new product launches
• Building product testing plans and ensure all claims have robust validation
• Developing new methodologies to enable new or better claims
• Benchmarking competition and aiming for continuous improvement
• Managing the lab (organisationally and H&S)
• Organising the practicalities of running a formulation lab, from resourcing and work scheduling to Health and Safety
• Business team interface
• Partnering across the business to build cross functional plans to deliver against our overall business goals
• Communicating to other functions with project updates, news for the team, results, developments, opportunities.
• Training new starters in the art and science of our ingredients and formulation choices
  
  

Experience you’ll bring:

• You’ll be degree-qualified in a technically relevant disciple such as chemistry, biochemistry, green chemistry, chem eng or formulation. This will enable you to give technical guidance to the team.
• You’ll have proven experience in R&D or product development preferably in home care, personal care or other relevant consumer categories.
• You’ll have experience of, and a passion for innovation, an eye for new developments and technologies and an ability to spot what is new and better from what is merely new.
• You will have a strong strategic brain, able to think and plan long term. An ability to interpret the plans of other functions (marketing, sales, sustainability, supply) and develop a long term R&D plan to address those needs……and beyond.
• You’ll have a proven ability to lead people and teams. You’ll be skilled at motivating, supporting and developing people. You’ll be able to balance resources and prioritise work plans to ensure we get the best from the team.
