Public Affairs Manager- UK & Ireland

RESPONSIBILITIES

As BASF’s Public Affairs Manager you will demonstrate strong leadership skills and take responsibility for managing BASF’s relationship with the UK & Ireland Parliaments and key industry/political audiences to deliver effective advocacy that promotes and achieves corporate strategic objectives.
You will:

• Take the lead for managing the BASF relationship with the UK & Ireland Parliaments, key industry/political audiences and public affairs contacts on strategic issues.
• Identify and develop relationships with key stakeholders and strategically influence on specific policy or legislation proposals, to promote BASF’s policy concerns and achieve corporate strategic objectives.
• Support BASF’s Vice President and the Leadership Team for UK & Ireland with strategic and annual planning to deliver effective BASF advocacy plans to achieve desired corporate and local outcomes.
• Organise, manage and attend relevant parliamentary events, in order to provide opportunities to meet with and influence relevant key stakeholders and further BASF’s position on defined issues.
• Maintain a current awareness of BASF’s key policy areas and issues and liaise closely with other BASF colleagues to ensure optimum effectiveness in delivery of BASF’s advocacy.
• Brief, coach and support colleagues to deliver content on key issues at either government level or with trade associations.
• Ensure proactive communication & knowledge sharing on up to date political information with the UK & Ireland organisation and other BASF Group stakeholders and monitor, analyse and report key information.

QUALIFICATIONS

• You are educated to degree level or equivalent (Ideally with a masters degree in Business Administration or related discipline).
• You have a demonstrable ability in managing public affairs for a complex organization, ideally gained within a corporate environment.
• You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex ideas to a range of audiences.
• You have excellent interpersonal and team working skills to suit a variety of situations.
• You have a good understanding of the UK & Ireland parliament structures, committees and processes.
• You have experience working with politicians, civil servants and political parties.
• You are able to plan, prioritise and manage a heavy workload while maintaining high quality.
• You have an understanding of the chemical industry and/or BASF.
• Location is flexible in the UK.
