The Role

We are currently seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the Rosalind Franklin Institute (the Franklin) as part of a collaboration with Evotec. The Evotec team is based on Milton Park, Oxfordshire, which is close to the Harwell campus where the Franklin is located. The programme as a whole will focus on the development of closed-loop workflows for the rapid exploration of novel chemical space to drive bioactive molecular discovery. The approach will have the potential to transform early-stage drug discovery.

Your primary task will be to establish, execute and apply miniaturised high-throughput synthetic methods that can accelerate bioactive molecular discovery. These methods will complement the reaction toolkit that currently dominates medicinal chemistry by enabling the “growth” of heterocyclic ring systems along unusual vectors. Your tasks will be largely associated with state-of-the-art equipment within the Franklin’s High-Throughput Molecular Discovery laboratory such as chemistry robotics, analytical LC-MS instruments and mass-directed purification equipment. The laboratory enables the development of efficient and integrated methods for automated microscale chemical synthesis, reaction analysis, product purification/formatting, and biological evaluation. You will work closely with medicinal chemists, biologists and computational chemists at Evotec.

About You

Candidates must hold a post-graduate qualification/PhD (or equivalent experience) relevant to the synthesis of bioactive small molecules. We are looking for candidates with demonstrable practical experience of harnessing synthetic methods of direct relevance to bioactive molecular discovery. Practical experience of parallel and/or high-throughput chemistry and/or working in interdisciplinary research teams, as well as experience with electronic data management and programming of relevance to high-throughput molecular discovery are desirable.
