About The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to contribute to the design and development of a portfolio of optical sensing products. You will contribute to the development and product integration of optical sensing and communication systems.

What will I be doing?

You will be actively involved in developing laser and fibre optic systems for sensors to be used in QinetiQ products, research projects and development of bespoke solutions for novel applications across the breadth of QinetiQ’s business.

• Assist in delivery of research, development and delivery of product programmes – this may cover TRL levels 3 (experimental proof of concept) to 9 (operational deployment)
• Undertake experimental and theoretical studies of optical sensing systems (including optical based communications systems)
• Planning and delivery of projects as appropriate
• Providing input to larger projects as part of a team of subject matter experts
• Participate in trials of sensing or optical communication systems
  
  

What do I need?

Typically the candidate will have a physics or an engineering degree and having studied some of the following areas:

• Optical physics
• Lasers and their applications in a general sense
• Signal processing (Fourier decomposition, filtering, time and frequency domain processing schemes, modulation/demodulation schemes)
• Software implementation for control, acquisition, and processing and visualisation tasks (preferred languages Python, Matlab, LabVIEW, C, C++).
