Our Client are looking for an experienced, dynamic, and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join their dedicated Paediatric Occupational Therapy team. Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist

Salary: £38,767 to £39,736 per annum

Location: Ottershaw/Surrey

Hours: Full time (35 hours per week), 42 weeks per year (term time plus up to 3 weeks of work during school closure periods) with 10 weeks paid holiday

Client Group: special school that caters for pupils aged 4-11years with severe/complex

This school is an Ofsted rated ’Outstanding’ special school that caters for pupils aged 4-11years with severe/complex Speech and Language Disorders, some of whom have a variety of co-existing conditions including Sensory Processing Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Autistic Spectrum Disorders and moderate learning difficulties

Job Role:
  • You will be school-based and will work autonomously to assess for, plan, and deliver individualised intervention programmes.
  • Include working with children individually or in small groups, in specialist treatment areas and across functional contexts within the school environment to enable their learning and meaningful engagement in school-based tasks.
  • You will have responsibility for supporting colleagues to develop their skills through line management, and will be involved in training, CPD opportunities and outreach programmes.
  • You will enjoy the chance to work within a well-resourced department and as part of strong and supportive multi-disciplinary team of Teachers, Therapists, EP, Learning Support Assistants and Residential Care Officers.
  • To produce comprehensive written reports on pupils’ progress for annual review and to
contribute to the Education Health and Care plans (EHCP’s) as needed.

  • To address issues of confidentiality, consent and sharing information throughout assessment and intervention according to GDPR regulations.
  • To respect the individuality, values, and cultural and religious diversity of pupils.
  • To liaise with members of the MDT regarding patient care and treatment plans, and work jointly with the physiotherapist or Speech and Language therapist as appropriate.
  • To evaluate and monitor effectiveness of occupational therapy interventions; using relevant outcome measures to compare progress with baselines
  • To be a reflective practitioner. Considering and evaluating alternative and innovative approaches to the management of pupils with complex social. Emotional, physical and/or sensory needs.
  • To respond proactively to feedback on occupational therapy services provided to modify interventions as necessary for improved client care.
  • To use a total communication approach to enable pupils’ communication across contexts including AAC, Sign Supported English/Makaton, symbol supported communication (Widget).
  • To demonstrate good clinical reasoning of the use of equipment, technology, and
adaptations in physical and social contexts to maximise pupils’ independence.

  • To assess for, advise, and order specialist equipment, being aware of financial implications and restrictions in liaison with Clinical Lead OT.
  • To make referrals to other professionals and external agencies as required, to address the
child’s global needs.

  • To liaise with multi-disciplinary team members and family/carers to ensure that occupational therapy treatment is integrated into children’s targets that support learning and skills for daily living.
