The appointment will be made at Lecturer grade 8, with start point varying according to experience and qualifications.

The post will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to teach in our undergraduate curriculum, to play a key role in its development in shaping content and structure and to work closely with the student cohort. The candidate will be expected to show the ability to teach experimental creative digital arts with a diverse range of media such as (but not limited to) video, audio, animation, mixed media, interactive and web-based art. The technical ability to deliver training in software for developing digital arts is essential. Further to this, the ability to teach digital arts in game engines or with game design software such as UnReal Engine or Unity, and/or ability to teach immersive digital arts, or interactive art with Arduino, Raspberry Pi or equivalent is additionally desirable but not essential. The candidate will need to show theoretical and creative awareness of contemporary digital art as well as technical ability to deliver art practice modules.

We are especially interested in candidates with a demonstrable commitment to and/or experience in inclusive education and pedagogy in the arts and/or creative industries, and whose creative practice engages with diverse cultural backgrounds and communities that have been historically underrepresented in the digital arts.

The post offers an exciting opportunity to work in a prestigious academic institution, with Royal Holloway placed 24th in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide national rankings for 2019, and the Department of Media Arts ranked in the top ten of the Guardian’s list of UK Universities for Media Studies (9th) and for Film Production (5th). The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work closely with senior colleagues in the Department of Media Arts and the School of Performing and Digital Arts in a period of exciting development for the College.

The successful candidate will have experience of teaching in digital media, creative art practice and/or immersive digital arts at undergraduate level. They should have been awarded a PhD in a relevant field or show significant practical artistic or industry success commensurate with the highest level of academic study. In addition, the candidate’s demonstration of an ability or willingness to teach a combination of both theoretical and practical elements of digital arts.

The job holder will report to the Head of Department of Media Arts, undertaking appropriate managerial and administrative duties. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organisational, team-working and interpersonal skills, with proven abilities to engage with students and colleagues.
