Main Duties:

An exciting opportunity to join the Rough Sleepers Initiative in Canterbury working closely with our clients supporting them to move away from the streets into accommodation and helping to prevent street homelessness where possible. We are seeking an enthusiastic, empathetic individual who has a clear understanding of professional boundaries. Ideally, you will have experience of promptly assessing, planning and completing actions with Homeless and/or vulnerable adults, in very complex situations.


Our Housing Led project aims to end an individual’s homelessness by providing a permanent offer of independent, stable housing and open-ended, wrap-around support. You will provide a personalised, trauma-informed support service to people with complex needs facing multiple exclusions. Practically this will mean working within a team, building fast and strong working relationships with clients and external partners. The Housing Led Support Worker will coordinate and provide a person-centred support service creating long-term sustainable tenancies by increasing independence and maximising connectivity with the local community.


Essential Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the current housing market and the environment in which the local authority operates in
  • Knowledge of local and national agencies who can assist our customers
  • Knowledge of Housing Led Approaches
  • Understanding of safeguarding duties relating to vulnerable adults
  • Knowledge of the challenges faced by clients who are sleeping rough or have a history of doing so in accessing accommodation
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills both on the phone and face to face.
  • Ability to manage, organise and priorities a demanding workload
  • Emotional resilience
  • Listening and questioning skills to establish facts
  • Ability to work with some autonomy as well as being an effective team player
  • Strong ICT Skills
  • Experience of supporting clients with complex needs
  • Experience of working with those who are sleeping rough or have a history of doing so

Due to the nature of the role, this post requires an enhanced DBS check.
