Graduate Materials Chemist (R&D)

Our products help secure and enhance brands both on-product and online, combatting counterfeit, protecting digital content and brand reputation, and unlocking brand/IP value through licensing and consumer engagement. We are expanding quickly and are looking to grow our technology development capability.

The Role

“Laboratory and pilot scale development, leading to full scale production trials.”

Undertake product development activities as required to support the current product range and develop new products in line with business strategy.

  • Product development activities to include laboratory formulation work mainly targeting lacquers and adhesives, plus the combining of various coatings to meet customer product requirements.
  • Manage ongoing project work efficiently and in a timely manner, adhering to quality, health, safety and environment policies at all times.
  • Supervise customer development trials as required.
  • Contribute towards development of laboratory processes and procedures.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of new and existing products and manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure thorough validation of new and modified products prior to manufacturing implementation.
  • Develop into a position to provide technical advice to the sales and sales support teams.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key personnel at other OpSec sites, customer contacts and raw material suppliers.

About you

“Educated to degree level in chemistry, polymer science, material science or related subject”

  • Educated to degree level in chemistry, polymer science, material science or related subject.
  • Must possess good IT skills.
  • Preferably some experience formulating solvent and/or water-based lacquers and adhesives.
  • Must be practically minded with a strong ‘hands on’ approach.
  • Preferably some experience formulating solvent and/or water-based lacquers and adhesives
  • Must have good communication skills interacting at all levels from shop floor to senior management
  • Must have the ability to multi-task, be self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as in a team environment
  • Preferably holds a full current UK driving licence
  • Must possess good IT skills and preferably some experience in design of experiment (DOE)
  • The ability to work accurately paying close attention to detail
  • Flexibility to accommodate ever-changing working environment and demands placed upon it
