Severn Vale School is an Academy which provides an inclusive secondary education for students aged 11-16, that delivers strong student outcomes through high quality teaching and outstanding support.

We are seeking to recruit a Product Design Technician within our friendly and cohesive Creative Faculty (Art, Photography & DT: 3D, Textiles, Graphics). The postholder will be responsible for preparing equipment and teaching areas for practical lessons, maintaining equipment and ensuring a safe environment.

The successful candidate will have:
excellent practical and organisational skills, be able to multi-task and work under their own supervision

the ability to solve technical problems

an understanding of health and safety issues relating to the safe operation of workshop machinery.

a good standard of general education

Experience in a similar position or working within industry with workshop equipment & resistant materials would be beneficial, although full training can be given to the right candidate.

JOB DESCRIPTION

1. JOB PURPOSE

• To provide support to the Creative Faculty (DT) teaching staff
• To prepare resources and ensure all equipment is safe & adequately maintained

2. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• The preparation and setting up & support teachers in the delivery of predominately lessons in Product Design / Resistant Materials / 3D.
• Ensuring practical work areas are safe and hazard free
• Specialist maintenance and upgrading of specialist equipment and new technologies as and when required – instruments such as CAD/CAM, Laser cutters, 3D Printers, Routers, Pillar drills, Bandsaws,
• Supporting teaching staff with the operation and application of any new specialist equipment and associated software.
• Checking, ordering and maintaining materials stock within the department ensuring best value for money is achieved to maximising opportunities within departmental budget restraints.
• Be able to provide technical support during lessons, including individual or small group pupil support where appropriate.
• To have particular regard to health and safety matters in accordance with school policy and statutory requirements e.g. CLEAPPS
• Ensuring that the requirements laid out in Health and Safety legislation are met when personally operating and maintaining equipment
• Organisation & storage of tools, machinery, equipment and carrying out a schedule of planned maintenance on all machinery and equipment
• Checking, ordering and maintaining materials stock within the department ensuring best value for money is achieved to maximising opportunities within departmental budget restraints
• The role is predominately workshop based with flexibility to support in other areas across the faculty where required such as textiles.
• Other requirements, which arise to support the department in with agreement of the Faculty & Deputy Faculty Leads
• Have a degree of flexibility in terms of working hours as per the needs of the students / department at certain times of year

3. QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

• A good standard of general education
• Experience in a similar position or working within industry with workshop equipment & resistant materials
• Although not required, experience of multi-tasking & under own supervision would be desirable.
