Position Summary

The Prototyping Design Specialist will lead the technical design of new product opportunities, considering new innovations from concept to consumer validation and through to launch. The position will be accountable for project leadership, technical engineering, and material scoping while implementing designs into manufacturing facilities. The role will partner across all teams internally and externally to design and execute winning concepts using virtual and physical prototyping with digital tools & capabilities. The position is part of fast-paced, dynamic team environment with real responsibility for business impact by rapidly delivering innovative products to market that will directly lead to business growth.

Role Accountabilities

• Partner with x-functional team to develop and bring to life new product concepts to support rapid market delivery
• Provide broad design and engineering understanding and inputs into the creation process to ensure that new products meet consumer, customer, supply chain and all business needs
• Identify and create technical solutions, including component and assembly design, for new product developments and improvements to existing portfolio, including leveraging inclusive design approaches.
• Leverage and develop approaches to rapidly evaluate concepts from single unit to consumer validation scale, via virtual and physical design exploration and validation (including various prototyping methods)
• Develop and conduct consumer evaluation of new concepts and ideas
• Focus on reducing environmental footprint of all packaging without compromise to product perception and integrity
• Support development and partnerships with key partners in fields of prototyping and component development
  
  

Critical Competencies

• Relevant degree in Engineering, Product Design, Material Science, or Technical Project Management (science & technology focus), and at least 3 - 5 years experience in product development field, preferably in the FMCG industry.
• Broad project design and engineering knowledge with experience in concept development, packaging materials, and manufacturing processes. Experience in design of plastic packaging components is preferred.
• 3D CAD design skills with the ability to create components using parametric software (Siemens NX experience or equivalent).
• A creative, logical and analytical mind set to generate innovative design solutions to technical challenges.
• Must demonstrate a general understanding of project management to realise the order, importance, and impact of project activities as it relates to package design process.
• Must understand consumer, business, and category needs and the relationship to product design decisions & execution. An entrepreneurial mind set is advantageous.
• Enthusiasm and self-motivation with great verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate complex engineering and design principles to people at all levels of the business, across different functions.
