Paralegal - Property - Full time position - Cheltenham

The firm

We’re a law firm that specialises in media, technology and intellectual property. We advise clients on the financing, exploitation and protection of their creative and commercial assets. Our mission is to help clients to realise the value of their ideas in a digital age. For more information, see www.wiggin.co.uk.

Our firm is on a sustained upwards trajectory and has doubled in size, both in revenue terms and lawyer numbers, since 2015. Recent milestones on our path to becoming the destination law firm for a digital world include establishing a new telecoms team, our acquisition of computer games law firm, Purewal & Partners, and the expansion of our Brussels team to further enhance our IP offering.

Our culture is unique among law firms – both in what we expect from our people and the way we create value in the industries we serve. We empower people, expect commitment and excellence, and celebrate when we achieve it.

Our values are at the heart of everything that we do and define Wiggin as a workplace: being visionary, authentic, unified, responsible and excellent across-the-board.

There isn’t a typical Wiggin person. We aim to build teams that are diverse in thought, perspective and experience to provide a more rounded service to our internal and external clients.

The team

Even in this digital age, commercial enterprises need ground under their feet to house their employees, servers and systems, create a sense of community and culture, and to grow their business securely. Our Property team have many collective years of experience advising media and technology companies on a broad range of transactions. The Property team has structured itself as a compact, agile practice that primarily provides an integrated support function for the various sectors of Wiggin, whilst also servicing the core real estate needs and requirements of the firm’s clients.

The role

The successful candidate will, as a member of the Property team, support the Film and TV team by working exclusively on Location Contracts for Film and TV clients. Location contracts are means by which production companies contract to occupy land and carry out filming of part of a movie or TV series. Location contracts are fundamentally land hire contracts, but contain various bespoke provisions designed to protect and exploit the filming content being produced. On-the-job training will of course be provided.

The successful candidate will be working on multiple location contracts, for multiple film and TV productions, at any given time. This is a client facing, fast moving role in the entertainment industry and time/work priority management, as well as good people skills, are of equal importance to attention to written detail.

  • A qualification in law e.g. law degree or Graduate Diploma in Law is preferred but not essential
  • Experience of working in a paralegal role within a fast paced and challenging environment is useful but not essential
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, PDF software (e.g. PDF Docs/Adobe Acrobat).
