Our Submarines Business

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.

The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.

Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world’s most complex engineering challenges.

Project Planner Opportunities

Would you like to play a key role in shaping the delivery of projects to support a world-class Submarine capability? We currently have a number of vacancies for Project Planners at our sites in Bristol, Portsmouth and Weymouth, with hybrid working arrangements in place.

As a Project Planner, you will be supporting the Combat Systems Central Planning Team in creating and maintaining integrated master schedules in Primavera 6.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to put your planning and scheduling expertise to use on large scale, complex engineering projects, increasing your experience and developing skills that will further enhance your career.

Your Main Responsibilities As a Project Planner Will Involve
  • Producing and maintaining a portfolio of projects ensuring planning rules are followed.
  • Working various stakeholders to produce detailed programmes, rolling up to level one and three programmes.
  • Supporting the bid team with cost models and resource demands, running schedule risk analysis (SRA) using Primavera and advising on results
  • Assisting with the development of reporting processes to ensure BAE planning best practice is maintained.
  • Ensuring project change procedures are followed, produce scenario plans in line requirements.
  • Preparing reports for all planning activity metrics, and providing analysis on all results with guidance/recommendations on required improvements
  • Producing monthly budget and man-hour metrics
  • Provide guidance and training to junior team members on the company planning toolset to ensure SQEP levels are maintained
Your Skills And Qualifications
  • Excellent coordination, and organisation skills highly beneficial
  • Understanding and or experience of Primavera 6 or similar toolset, or Microsoft Project for creating large, highly integrated, task-based schedules would be advantageous, not essential
  • An understanding of earned value management and how to manage SPI and CPI data is beneficial but not essential
  • Foundation Degree, or HNC/HND, or a certificate in planning, or equivalent qualification, or experience
  • Experience of facilitating planning reviews or workshops to support the schedules in Primavera 6 and Microsoft Project would be advantageous but not essential

You will have strong communication skills with the ability to lead, coach and mentor others within your team. You will be a proactive individual that has strong organisational skills in order to use their own initiative with their work schedule.
