Project Engineering Manager (Investigations)

Would you like to join us and help to define the future of global maritime defence capabilities? We currently have a vacancy for a Project Engineering Manager (Investigations) at our site in Broad Oak, Portsmouth.

As a Project Engineering Manager (Investigations), you will be responsible for managing the Technical Interface and oversight, co-ordination and prioritisation of the Design Authority Task Management System, to ensure that focus is maintained on the key customer and project issues. You will manage the Help Desk system on the TRAM Programme to ensure the accurate, appropriate and timely completion of queries.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work within a varied role where no two days are the same. This is an important and respected role in the project which will allow you to build your career and develop into other areas within the Business.

Your main responsibilities as a Project Engineering Manager (Investigations) will involve:
  • Oversight, prioritisation and direction of the Spearfish Design Support Task Management system
  • Introducing the Task Management system to the Spearfish Mod 1 variant torpedo when it becomes the responsibility of the team
  • Attending the Design Authority Remedial Action Panels to ensure that appropriate prioritisation is given to issues of concern to MOD and the project
  • Facilitating the activities and interactions necessary to ensure adequate liaison across the various sub- groups within the Company to achieve task completion
  • Providing monthly and quarterly task and help desk reports to the MOD
  • Maintaining a regular and actioned review with project staff as appropriate to capture and progress all processing related issues
  • Validate and authorise the issue of support equipment drawings for spares procurement
  • Managing the Help Desk to ensure that MOD and queries are recorded and processed within the obligations of the contract
  • Supporting the Spearfish Modifications and Handbook Committees, with appropriate technical information arising from the Task Management System
Essential

Your skills and qualifications
  • Familiarity with the Engineering Lifecycle with some experience of operating in one or more phases of that environment
  • Qualified in a relevant Engineering or closely related discipline to degree level or proven engineering experience
  • Experience being involved in multiple projects and allocating tasks within an engineering function
  • Competent to operate Microsoft Office applications and capable of operating effectively within the SAP system, with particular focus on non-conformance and Engineering Change management
  • Able to produce structured engineering reports
Desirable
  • Capable of understanding the Engineering principles of operation of Torpedoes and Support Equipment to analyse technical anomalies
  • An understanding of the requirements and behaviour of the Spearfish system in the In-Service and Support domain, including key Safety issues

You will be able to communicate effectively with internal and external staff at a range of levels and in both oral and written modes. You must be able to appreciate customer and end-user concerns and use that information to influence design staff responses. You must be able to work effectively in a team environment with staff at all levels. You will be confident to challenge where necessary to ensure that project priorities are followed.

Salary: up to £47,940 depending on skills and experience
