Role And Responsibilities

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

CAE is a high technology company, at the leading edge of digital immersion, providing solutions to make the world a safer place. This role will support the land training and simulation business, proving the UK MOD with world advanced training solutions that provide a competitive edge.

The Project Engineer will lead and direct technical activities of large-scale program by applying mature engineering knowledge and techniques. The role carries out significant and varied engineering assignments requiring general familiarity with a broad field of engineering and knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other fields.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead and direct technical activities of large-scale program by applying mature engineering knowledge and techniques.
  • Acts as technical link between CAE (across engineering sites) and customer.
  • Coordinates engineering activities across many disciplines.
  • Conducts independent projects autonomously and is responsible for coordination of challenging assignments.
  • Assigns project team to specific tasks based on project requirements.
  • In close collaboration with Systems Engineer/Systems Architect, develops overall system architecture, technical directives and programming standards for assigned projects.
  • Resolves technical problems escalated from team members.
  • Identify and manage risks associated with the project.
  • Provides technical support on sub-system designs which may have impact at the system level.
  • Develops and coordinate project schedule, including on-site installation plans in collaboration with the project manager.
  • Ensure the respect of CAE processes, procedures and documentation standards.
  • Ensure that safety, maintenance and lifecycle management considerations are addressed during the design of the projects.
  • Ensure that CAE products conform to all applicable product safety legislation and standards and be the signatory on Product Declaration of Conformity.
  • Any other duties as may be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential:
  • Experience delivering programs through the engineering lifecycle.
  • Experience of implementing engineering governance (SOR, PDR, CDR…).
  • Experience leading the technical element of projects or programs.
  • Experience in estimating time to completion against scope and managing scoping through project execution.
  • Experience of contributing to proposal and supporting bid management.
  • Experience of requirements generation and management.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and coordination skills.

Desirable:
  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent preferred.
  • Exposure across multiple engineering disciplines and business functions
  • Experience in training and simulation.
  • Experience working in Defence and Security domain.
  • Exposure to Agile and Lean development methodologies.
  • Demonstration of personal development performed against institutions such as the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET), the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) and the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) etc.

  • Some activities will require frequent travel in the UK and abroad so the role includes car allowance to cover travel.
  • Some activities will require overtime and weekend working.
  • Applicants must be able to obtain or transfer Security Clearance which the Company sponsors (applicants must have lived continuously in the UK for the past 5 years in order to obtain security clearance) or currently holds NATO SC level Security Clearance that can be transferred from overseas to the UK.
