Are you an ambitious and dynamic leader, able to build up and lead a new strategically-important Centre at the University of Lincoln?
Do you engage credibly at board level and have the skills and knowledge to prepare major collaborative funding bids, secure funding and deliver projects, and to contribute to strategy formation and evaluation
The University of Lincoln is seeking a Founding Director for our new Centre for Defence and Security Artificial Intelligence, and Professor of Artificial Intelligence Applications in ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance). The University has a strategic focus on research aligned with national priorities and regional partners, and the new Centre aligns with both our research strengths in AI and with regional defence-sector priorities, including ISTAR development.
The Centre will develop technologies essential to national security within operational and regulatory frameworks designed to ensure safe, reliable and ethical operation. The Director will also coordinate the University’s broader portfolio of defence and security sector research and knowledge exchange.
The University is extremely dynamic, featuring rapid growth in external income and collaborative activity, and you will need the agility to respond positively to the opportunities and challenges this brings, and to bring your team with you. The Centre will be situated in a broader academic context of excellence in autonomous systems, machine learning, defence and security research and challenge-led collaborative research conducted with external partners.
To ensure the success of this role and new centre, the University will pump-prime initial developments, including with additional academic and research appointments, and the Centre will form a key part of our on-going research environment.
