Job Introduction

The East Sussex Social Work Education Team needs confident, experienced and skilled social workers who are looking to share their knowledge and develop our future social care professionals.

As a Professional Education Consultant, you will have a varied work programme that focusses on the support of students and newly qualified social workers. To help recruit, develop and retain our staff, you will work with local universities, experts by experience, our own training department and have the guidance and support of your team and the Principal Social Worker.

An inquisitive and reflective approach to learning will be essential along with the energy and enthusiasm to see our social care practitioners reach their potential. We will also help you maintain your own practice interests and skills through opportunities for direct practice with service users and carers.

We are looking for candidates who are able to Act as a recognised expert in social work practice, providing leadership to student social workers, Newly Qualified Social Workers and other social care practitioners. Work with students, newly qualified and other social workers to ensure social work practice is in line with the processes, policies and legislative requirements of the service area. Co-ordinate the ASYE programme, including assessment and review of Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSW’s) progression, facilitation of Action Learning Sets/reflective groups, delivery of training and workshops to NQSW’s, ASYE Assessors and mentors. Deliver training to staff who are required to be Practice Educators, ensuring staff meet the Practice Educator Professional Standards.

At Interview the main areas we’d like you to tell us about include:

  • Demonstrate an in depth understanding of and involvement in research and academic rigour.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of all aspects of legislation applicable to the service in order to provide expert advice to students, social workers, managers and university colleagues.
  • Demonstrate a systematic understanding of knowledge and a critical awareness of current problems and new insights, including those at the forefront of the field of social work education.
  • Experience of using and undertaking research.
  • Extensive recent experience of contributing to the learning of student social workers, newly qualified social workers, experienced and senior social workers.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
