Main Purpose of Job
Glen Dimplex Heating and Ventilation is a world leader in intelligent electric heating and renewable energy solutions, as well as holding significant global market positions in domestic appliances, cooling and ventilation.
Due to continued growth we are currently looking to recruit a Production Supervisor for our Ability Projects site down in Poole. The successful candidate will be planning and controlling shop floor activities within a designated area to ensure that fan coil products are manufactured effectively, efficiently, correctly and on time whilst motivating others to do the same.
We are looking for someone who can take responsibility for driving a high-performance culture that’s consistent with our brand values. Leading and supervising their team to achieve results, setting clear expectations, planning monitoring, identifying training needs & managing performance.
Due to the manufacturing environment the role will have strong health and safety aspects associated with it. The ideal candidate must therefore either have health and safety knowledge or a desire to learn and implement necessary health and safety initiatives.

Accountabilities

Manage the team’s performance, including performance development reviews in order to ensure colleagues are clear on expectations and are performing to a required standard.

  • Engage and motivate through leading and coaching to drive a high performing culture.
  • Regularly communicating all relevant information to your team via one-to-one meetings, team meetings and monthly Supervisor meetings to ensure everyone is fully informed.
  • Manage labour requirements of the department, monitoring overtime levels and requesting additional temporary staff when required, to meet the needs of the business.
  • Identify potential streamlining approaches within your designated area and make changes to achieve those improvements, reporting upwards if any improvements require co-operation from other departments and / or financial assistance.
  • Develop quality standards in conjunction with the Production Manager focusing on process management, continuous improvement of processes, implementation of KPI’s for production staff, lean management techniques to improve efficiency in productivity.

  • Training your workforce on site machinery / tools in your area and what procedures they must follow.
  • Ensuring the ongoing safe use of machinery / tools scheduling regular maintenance when required.
  • Ensure all daily/ weekly / monthly checks are completed where required.
  • Uphold the highest standards of quality and adherence to our ISO9001 ISO14001 processes and procedures.
  • To help establish, monitor and enforce aspects of health and safety where necessary, inclusive of; producing H&S documentation (method statements/ risk assessments) for the department; recording information in line with company ISO standards; providing guidance on implementation of H&S procedures and policies to ensure all operations are conducted in a safe manner in line with company requirements.
  • Act safely at all times and in accordance with the company Health and Safety Policy, regulations and legislation.
  • To liaise with other sections both upstream and downstream to make sure work packages arrive at your area and leave your area on a timely basis.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE*

  • Excellent communication skills that allow you to help, inform and advise the production team and senior management clearly and effectively.
  • Previous experience of operating within a quality management environment.
  • Ability to understand targets and achieve or exceed expectations/KPI’s.
  • Track record of operating within a manufacturing environment.
  • Coaching and mentoring of staff, with a view to improve performance of a team.
  • Knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook or similar software applications.
  • Positive can-do attitude

DESIRABLE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

A H&S related qualification i.e. IOSH.

  • Team Leader or equivalent qualification.
  • Knowledge and experience of using SAP or similar MRP based system.
