We create engaging exhibition stands helping our clients achieve enhanced results from exhibiting at trade exhibitions across Europe and increasingly further afield. This is an exciting, creative and dynamic business with a 70 strong team and purpose-built facility with fantastic equipment and resources.

Our unique formula uses a clever blend of modular hired architecture with bespoke features and graphics to deliver custom stands more efficiently. With a focus on visitor engagement, we also lead the way in pioneering exciting new ways for our clients to tell their story with investment in technology and digital content creation skills, setting us apart from our traditional rivals.

The role

To facilitate a planned restructure together with anticipated future growth, we now seek an experienced Production Manager to bolster the existing management team. Working closely with the Operations Director, the Production Manager will have responsibility for the planning and optimizing the output for departments and teams including Joinery, Engineering, Print, and Stores. This will include ensuring that all products and services required by our clients are delivered on time and to a fantastic quality, whilst maintaining the flexibility to react to contingency situations that frequently occur in the exhibition/events industry.

The successful candidate will lead a highly skilled and seasoned team totalling 28 employees.

The role will be primarily based in Wellingborough but may require occasional travel throughout the UK and abroad in line with the needs of the business.

Multi-disciplinary production management experience is required for a dynamic environment and marketplace where every project is different, and seasonal peaks require agile thinking and flexibility synonymous with the event industry.

Key responsibilities include:

  • To take ultimate responsibility for the day-to-day activities of the production team whilst working with the Operations Director to create improvement plans to optimise capacity and utilisation.
  • To manage day to day facilities management and plant maintenance whilst also working with the Operations Director on new plant/facility investment ideas.
  • To proactively lead in the management and implementation of Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental systems within the business, having contributed to the design of these with the Operations Director.
  • Mange all Production, Graphics & Warehouse including appraisals, pay negotiations, shift planning, recruitment & disciplinaries (supported my HR Manager)
  • To promptly and flexibly respond to the last-minute requests from internal and external stakeholders (that’s events!)
  • To work in conjunction with the Operations Director to ensure all legal compliance requirements are correctly dealt with.
  • To analyse production output in terms of speed, quality, and efficiency using this to formulate improvement strategies and plans.
  • To maximise output, particularly at peak seasonal periods, whilst keeping the team meaningfully busy during periods of lower output
  • To maintain and stock control our extensive hire inventory
  • To identify areas for improvement
  • To own the ERP data relating to BoM’s and Routings
  • Form part of the R&D team, contributing ideas, managing prototyping, investigating new materials and researching new production methods/tools.
  • To contribute to the management team and broader plans for the business
  • To monitor workload and implement resource planning
  • To actively participate in internal and external meetings where attendance is required
  • To carry out any other reasonable managerial request including emergency onsite (event venue) attendance.

Essential:

  • A proven track record in the management of a manufacturing team, ideally having some experience in a least 2 of the following disciplines: joinery, metalwork, graphic printing or warehouse management.
  • Strong management skills, including the ability to implement and lead change
  • In depth working knowledge of all relevant Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental requirements and procedures.
  • Working knowledge & experience of ERP / Production planning systems, and good Excel skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Commercial awareness
  • Good communication skills
  • Flexible problem solving mindset

Desirable:

  • Events Industry experience
  • Change-management experience

Qualifications:

  • A formal H&S qualification would be preferred
  • Six Sigma or similar
