Key responsibilities

  • To lead the Production functions within the Chesterfield site which includes all manufacturing, assembly and electrical departments.
  • Ensure all operations are carried out in an appropriate, cost-effective and safe manner
  • Improve operational management systems, processes, best practices and continuous improvements.
  • Deliver the strategic and operational objectives set out by the Group management
  • Ensure appropriate Material Requirement Planning (MRP) is in place to support the business.
  • Ensure the correct level of sales and operational planning is in place to ensure we deliver customers’ orders on time, every time. This includes staffing and material levels.
  • Ensure the organization’s processes remain legally compliant.
  • Monitor, record and affect production KPIs positively
  • Ensure staff comply with management systems, processes and best practices.
  • Ensure all staff and visitors on-site abide by the company Health and Safety policies at all times.
  • Lead the team. Show leadership to the production team by role modelling behaviour and following the Evac leadership principles.

Key requirements

  • The successful candidate has several years of leadership experience in operational management. He/She will have a positive attitude, good motivational skills, the ability to make difficult decisions, be able to delegate and be approachable.
  • Further attributes include integrity, humility, transparency and authenticity.
  • He/She should have the experience and skills to lead the Production Team and workshop operatives.


The Production Manager will:

  • ensure everyone always works in a safe and consistent manner as set out in the company handbook.
  • Ensure the capacity and deal with Time & Attendance (T&A) issues such as Lateness, Absenteeism, Sickness and Holidays.
  • Lead daily pulse production meetings in collaboration with the Production, Sales, Quality and Engineering teams.
  • Monitor and address Evac production daily KPI’s such as, but not limited to Sales, Customer / Production OTD, Productivity, RFT, Safety, Throughput, S, Costs and Staffing in all production departments.
  • Ensure each department update their team boards daily.
  • Ensure each department is operating safely and respecting company H&S at all times. Drive a safe working culture though the business, ensuring adherence to the rules and regulations, encouraging near miss and safety observation reporting
  • Manage direct reports to deliver KPI’s.
  • Always set the required standard.
  • Able to manage conflict.


Daily tasks will include also

  • Ensuring the correct level of sales and operational planning is in place to ensure we deliver customer’s orders on-time, every time. This includes staffing and material levels.
  • Ensuring the quality of production satisfies customer’s expectations. Work with the Quality Manager / department to develop RCCA process.
  • Developing current production manufacturing and planning processes to enable an ERP/MRP driven business.
  • Ensuring appropriate levels of actions are in place and undertaken to keep KPI’s green.
  • Collaborating with production support functions Purchasing, Engineering and Quality to ensure required levels of support is in place at all times to deliver product on-time and to the required standards.
  • Work with the Sales Managers to improve communication including the setting of standard lead-times (to reduce required interaction) and sales forecasting to improve forward planning of resources (staff and materials).
  • Provide the Sales team with lead-times based on the information provided.
  • Work with the Technical Sales Manager to ensure the Bills of Materials are accurate at all times


Continuous Improvement

  • Take the lead from the Senior Operations Manager to implement and sustain the company S programme across all production functions ensuring audits are undergone and actions are closed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate any production area improvements through S and/or project work.
  • Work with the despatch and warehouse teams to ensure all products are boxed and packed in the most suitable way for transportation.

Relationships required

  • Maintain a good working relationship with all Production teams and operatives.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with all internal support functions and their respective Managers, namely Sales, Engineering, Purchasing, Quality and Despatch.
  • Maintain good working relationship with agents and customers.


Experience and skills

  • Experience of leading production teams is mandatory.
  • Experience in change management and managing conflict.
  • Good understanding of business systems (MRP/ERP).
  • Understanding of Production KPI’s and how to apply them in the workplace, such as but not limited to Safety, Quality, Delivery and Performance.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office tools particularly Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Good understanding of Lean principles and their application in a workplace.
  • Firm, fair leadership style.
  • Important qualities include integrity, accountability, empathy, humility, resilience, vision, influence and positivity.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with Production team and other business functions.


Advantageous but not mandatory

  • Working knowledge of the Product range. Consideration for how the business runs and awareness of possible design impacts.
  • Knowledge of class requirements relating to MGPS, ICCP and RO water makers.
  • Knowledge of military and offshore market requirements
  • Knowledge of organising of factory acceptance tests


Mandatory Qualifications

  • Leadership and/or management qualifications (E.g., CMI, NVQ, BTEC, ILM)


Qualifications sought but not mandatory

  • Professional qualification for mechanical or electrical engineering
  • Qualifications in Production Planning
  • Supply Chain Management qualifications

Lean manufacturing qualifications (E.g., Six Sigma, Lean, Data Analysis)
