The Digital/Existing Customer & Acquisitions/Product Squads aspire to be a best-in-class change delivery function, which objective is to serve and delight AFSL’s customers, both squads are key to the success of AFSL and have many internal and external stakeholders. Whilst our Digital/Existing Customer squad concentrates on offering exceptional digital service to our existing customers via our portal and beyond, our Acquisitions/Product Squad will be at the cutting edge of implementing and improving new and existing products to help AFSL grow and offer our customers more.

The Product Owner is part of a delivery Squad. With the Scrum Master they are part of the leadership of the Squad. The Product Owner has overall accountability for translating business needs into features/epics and then into consumable user stories for the Squad and ensure they contribute to the Tribe OKRs (Objectives and Key Results). Product Owners work closely with all areas of our Product teams to create and manage Squad backlogs and breakdown Tribe backlogs to enable iterative and early value delivery.

Key Contribution Areas
  • Accountable for Squad deliveries contributing to Tribe OKRs
  • Elaborates user stories from Features and Epics in collaboration with key product stakeholders, other Squad Product Owners and wider business community/stakeholders
  • Owns, manages and prioritizes Squad backlog
  • Engages with stakeholders to understand business needs, upcoming priorities, and is responsible for running iterative interactions to ensure efficiency and alignment with those stakeholders.
  • Ensures user story completeness covering all aspects of internal and external stakeholder requirements
  • Manages scope dependencies within the Tribe in collaboration with other Product Owners
  • Develops ‘Definition of Done’ and Acceptance Criteria for user stories
  • Engages with the delivery Squad, constructively challenges, and provides continuous feedback to ensure the Squad output meet Acceptance Criteria. Stays actively involved with the Squad through the delivery, supporting the different roles by answering doubts and clarifying objectives, etc.
  • Participates in Sprint demos and demonstrates how Squad deliveries contribute to Tribe OKRs
  • Supports Product teams in defining MVP/product iterations working with other Product Owners
  • Supports Product teams in defining product roadmap, vision and value estimation
  • Supports Product teams in managing scope and business-related risks, issues and mitigations
  • Supports Product teams to prepare for key events like Quarterly Tribe Alignment, Monthly Tribe Planning and Sprint Planning


Key interactions
  • Collaborates and consults with other Product Owners to ensure completeness of User Stories in delivering OKRs
  • Engages with wider business stakeholders to support elaboration of user stories, definition of Acceptance Criteria and Definition of Done
  • Supports Scrum Master in Squad level ceremonies
  • Works closely with Product teams in ensuring Squad deliveries align with product vision and Tribe OKRs


Essential Knowledge, Skills, Experience
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple workflows simultaneously
  • Attention to detail, with a pragmatic mindset
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to learn and understand technology and products based on technological solutions


Desirable Knowledge, Skills, Experience (not Mandatory)
  • Overall understanding of AFSL’s business and technology landscape
  • Business Analyst work experience and/or relevant qualification(s)
  • Work experience in an agile set up were a Product Owner was present, or experience as Product Owner (or Junior/Deputy PO or similar)
  • Experience/understanding of Cloud-based technology solutions and delivery, including concepts like containerization, API management gateways, CICD pipelines, etc
  • Agile practices and ways of working
  • Experience with using Agile working tools (i.e. Jira, or Azure DevOps, or similar)
