About the team

Our Pearson School Qualifications business supports schools, teachers, learners and their parents throughout their entire school journey, from 4 to 19. Our vision is to be the partner of choice - helping every learner to achieve their full potential.

The Primary team develops market-winning products and services for children aged 4-11, and their teachers and parents. If you have connections to primary school classrooms, you may have heard about some of our products - Bug Club, a digital-first reading programme used by children across the world to help them learn to read, or Power Maths, a government-endorsed maths programme designed to help all children master (and enjoy!) maths.

About the role

We are looking for a Product Manager who is passionate about the role of technology in education, to research, develop and deliver innovative new digital teaching, learning and assessment products for a primary school market. In this role you will be an entrepreneur within a large business, and your creative, fast-thinking and proactive approach to opportunities will shine through.

As a member of our product management team, you will be required to keep your finger on the pulse of the primary market, understanding trends in customer behaviour and identifying their unmet needs. You will develop winning product proposals that disrupt the market, from both a product design and business model point-of-view. You will lead cross-functional teams to deliver products to market on time, to budget and to the highest quality. You will be responsible for project P&Ls, delivering against revenue and profit targets for your projects.

A day in the life…

In this role you will be required to undertake the following activities:

Market knowledge and insight

· Create and maintain expertise in the primary schools market for digital teaching, learning and assessment products, understanding and predicting trends and building these into your product roadmap

· Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, experts and thought leaders in primary curriculum, education technology and assessment. Represent Pearson Primary with external stakeholders, including managing 3rd-party partner relationships and attending/presenting at events and forums

· Track, analyse and respond to competitor activity, with a focus on primary edtech

Proposition development and delivery

· Work with children, teachers, and parents to research new product ideas, designing ‘research experiments’ to test your risky assumptions

· Work with colleagues to define new digital capabilities, explore how best to deliver these capabilities to market and specify technical requirements for development

· Work with a range of contributors to commission and/or adapt digital content, and ensure quality, time and budget metrics are met throughout content production

· Work with sales and marketing colleagues to ensure customer segmentation and messaging is clear, sales and marketing tactics are agreed, collateral is produced, and revenue targets are met

Financial planning and management

· Contribute to financial planning processes, including building revenue and investment projections

· Build business cases to get investment approved for your product ideas, holding responsibility for product P&Ls

Who are we looking for?

· A creative idea-generator …

· Able to turn ideas into reality …

· By running highly-organised projects …

· Based on excellent relationships and communication with colleagues …

· And solid financial acumen …

· With a track record of delivering digital products to market.

· Experience of primary curriculum, edtech and/or assessment is desirable.
