Solvay is a market leader in hydrogen peroxide, both in market share and technology. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is used mainly by the paper industry to bleach pulp. Its properties are also of interest to many markets, such as chemicals, food, textiles, and the environment.

Job Overview and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Operations & Technical Manager the position interacts closely with the Production Manager and Engineering Manager.

Primary areas of responsibility will be:

  • ensure processes are in compliance with Solvay, COMAH and UK HSE requirements
  • provide technical support on the processes to ensure production targets are met
  • lead process and quality improvement activities to drive a culture of continuous improvement
  • provide support to assure the systems and documentation are standardized, organized, and are maintained current and up-to-date

Achieving these responsibilities will include carrying out the following activities:

  • Provide assistance and troubleshooting support to the plants to meet productivity and quality goals
  • Developing process designs for capital projects. Designs will include mass and energy balances, process flow diagrams (PFDs), process and instrument drawings (P&IDs), equipment specifications, instrument datasheets, safety considerations, relief valve sizing and control strategies.
  • Conduct Root Cause analysis and implement corrective actions
  • Manage the Management of Change process within the Operations & Technical Department
  • Ensure key documentation (operating instructions, proof tests, hazardous area classification documentation, pressure relief documentation etc.) is accurate and up-to-date
  • Ensure P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) are current and accurately reflect the installation
  • Participate as process expert in the risk analyzes and contribute to studies and projects for HSE compliance of units.
  • Identify and provide justification for improvement projects for inclusion in the site capital plan
  • Champion new tools and techniques to improve HSE, quality, and efficiency within the site
  • Mentor placement students on assignment within the Operations & technical department
Provide support for implementation of company, site, and department initiatives

Education and Experience

As a minimum, will be qualified to degree standard in Chemical Engineering. 4-8 years of experience, ideally in Top Tier COMAH Environment.
Salary based on experience. Experience within a chemical manufacturing company is preferred.
