The Role

Reporting to the Chassis Chief Engineer, you will be the overall technical lead for the Chassis Systems for a complete battery electric vehicle platform (Brakes, Steering, Suspension, Tuneables, Driveline & Thermal), covering one or more vehicle programmes

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership & direction to the rest of the team
  • Cascade the Product & Programme targets to the team and support the creation of the relevant system-level targets
  • Drive the technical teams within Chassis Systems to deliver the best possible solutions in the fields of sustainability, innovation, mass & performance
  • Be the Chassis Systems representative at the key programme meetings, creating a strong network of contacts throughout the business to facilitate a collaborative working environment
  • Create the budgets (BoM, investment & headcount) from scratch, be able to confidently justify the content and ensure the figures/targets are met
  • Ensure that the team’s plans are aligned with the overall programme plan and that everything is delivered on time to support all programme gateways
  • Take ownership of the BoM, DFMEA, DVP, APQP, etc.
  • Work in very close partnership with the Chassis Principal Engineers, who lead the separate Chassis Systems, and the Chassis Programme Manager
  • Lead the strategic discussions with Purchasing, Manufacturing and Aftersales
  • Help define the future strategy and technology roadmaps whilst proactively supporting advanced engineering projects
The Person
  • You will have broad vehicle engineering experience (min 10yrs) encompassing most, if not all, Chassis Systems as well as all stages of programme delivery from initial concept and target setting through to launch and beyond
  • Degree qualified or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Be a positive influence on the team with the ability to motivate others to deliver on time and to target
  • Able to operate at an overview/supervisory level, with the ability to delve into the details if/when required
  • Must be able to make critical decisions calmly
  • Be someone who the more junior members of the team are inspired by and look to for guidance
  • Genuine interest in making efficient, sustainable products
  • Always question, never settle for OK
