What You’ll Be Doing
  • Providing systems engineering support to the Mechanical Systems Engineering Manager, WHLS & SSE Technical Authority (TA), DAS TA and MSG Platform Integration Engineers to ensure that the system designs, and subsequent products are coherent with the Combat System and Dreadnought SSBN & SSNR Platform designs
  • The development and management of technical specifications, functional and non-functional requirements, and acceptance activities
  • Reviewing system to system integration test plans and procedures to ensure that they deliver the evidence required for both equipment and system level customer acceptance to schedule
  • Supporting system to system integration and testing at the supplier’s site, Submarine Integration Facility (SIF) and on board the submarine during final integration testing and system acceptance activities
  • Supporting the ongoing development of WHLS to Combat System (CS) electrical and data interfaces in accordance with the CS system architecture, data, and message handling requirements
  • Assessing sub-contractor supplied design deliverables, making recommendations for amendment and ensuring that the supplied deliverables and sub-system designs are acceptable
  • Conducting systems engineering design trade-offs, Decision Panels and Design Reviews
  • The production, review and maintenance of sub-system Design Definition documentation
  • The development and agreement of system-to-system Interface documentation with stakeholders
  • Supporting the production and maintenance of product procurement Technical Specifications
  • The production of engineering reports for Combat Systems Senior Management
Essential

Your skills and experiences:
  • Degree, or equivalent qualification or experience, in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related discipline)
  • Mechanical systems engineering background
  • Knowledge and experience of systems engineering
Desirable
  • Experience of systems engineering activities in relation to submarine systems

The Mechanical Systems Engineer role

As a Mechanical Systems Engineer, you will be working as part of our Mechanical Systems Group (MSG), which is part of our wider Integrated Combat Systems business, supporting submarine programmes. The team have responsibility for the design, development, manufacture, delivery, installation and final acceptance of the Integrated Combat Systems Group’s scope of responsibility which includes the Weapon Handling and Launch System (WHLS), Submerged Signal Ejectors (SSEs) and Defensive Aids Suite (DAS).
