About The Opportunity

Jacobs are offering an incredible opportunity to work in a very rewarding and exciting framework. The design work for the next generation of Royal Navy submarines is underway following the award of two contracts to UK industry worth £85 million each. To facilitate the delivery, design, and concept work for a future Class of Royal Naval Submarine.

We are seeking electrical engineers with experience of power distribution. As part of this team, you will be responsible to produce engineering documentation and technical specifications for specific systems, producing supporting calculations and undertaking design review. You will be part of a dedicated team responsible for critical aspects of submarine system design with hybrid working arrangements, there will be a requirement to attend site occasionally, but this will be more of a remote working role. You will be responsible for executing engineering tasks or packages of work independently and as part of a wider team, delivering system/equipment documentation or modelling for verification and validation against the specified requirements documentation.

As the Principal Electrical Engineer - Power you will provide support to the Engineering Manager and/or external specialists during development and analysis of platform power systems for the future submarine programme. You will act as the team lead, managing the day-to-day activities of the team and the production of deliverables. You will also be responsible for developing and maintaining the competency and skills of the team, the project plan and scheduling project activities, while managing the resolution of any related issues.

key responsibilities will include
  • Developing design solutions to an agreed time, cost and quality in accordance with project milestones.
  • Developing and managing requirements and acceptance criteria specific to a system or product and/or across a system of systems, platform or programme.
  • Understand the contractual and performance requirements for various systems and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation and commissioning activities.
  • Produce documentation required to support the design review process and ensure that design proving evidence is comprehensive.
  • Ensure compliance against contractual requirements.
  • Undertake design reviews and presentations with customers.
  • Provide technical support to integrated performance and acceptance activities.
  • Review relevant supplier documentation and ensure it is captured and recorded appropriately.
  • Support the development of estimates for the scope of work and resources required to deliver it, to support bids, proposal development and project planning activities for various systems.

  • BEng (Hons) / MEng or equivalent
  • CEng (or be able to satisfy requirements for CEng)
Desirable
  • Technical report writing skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of engineering lifecycle.
  • Knowledge and experience in defence standards.
  • Understanding of at least one of the following areas Power system modelling; generators; switchgear; protection; power electronics.
