And our portfolio means that we’ve got one of the widest, most diverse, and most exciting datasets to work within the UK.This is a new role that will support the transformation of the data platform. You will be developing the data products that will be responsible for delivering data throughout the organisation. Sitting between data engineering and data analysis you will get exposure to both areas across all product teams and focus on transforming unstructured data into meaningful insights.You will be working on cross-product strategic projects and cutting-edge technologies, surrounded by like-minded people. This work will align with and help inform the short and long-term data strategy.Role ResponsibilityRole responsibilities will comprise some or all of the below depending on level:
  • Working across mobile, web, television and voice platforms supporting Product Managers, Business Analysts and working closely with Software & Data Engineers.
  • Providing insight into how our users interact with the product, who they are and how we can make their experience more enjoyable and ensure they return.
  • Designing, implementing and maintaining data models that promote a self-service approach to data consumption.
  • Automating data pipelines using proprietary BBC technology & Airflow.
  • Getting involved in planning the data the BBC collects online. You will help to develop the BBC’s data collection framework and strategy as well as work with Product and other stakeholders to help resolve any data quality issues.
  • Creating processes for data product development and advocating their use throughout the organisation.
  • Supporting analytics colleagues outside the product in managing projects and fielding queries.
  • Supporting junior colleagues within the team.
  • Able to build and maintain strong working relationships where you might, as a specialist, have to manage expectations of more senior colleagues.
Are you the right candidate?When it comes to Data Analysis at the BBC we look for these skills:
  • Experience in a Data Analyst, Data Engineering or Analytics Engineering role, preferably in digital products.
  • Excellent SQL skills for extracting and manipulating data.
  • Good knowledge of analytical database systems.
  • Comfortable working alongside cross-functional teams interacting with Product Managers, Engineers, Data Scientists, and Analysts.
  • An understanding of how digital products use experimentation.
  • Some experience coding in R or Python.
