Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will join a new multi-disciplinary team based in and hosted by the central area of BCUHB, offering services across all areas of the Health Board (East, Central and West). The team is clinically led and operationally managed by the service lead dietitian. Other members of the team include a consultant Paediatrician (0.5WTE), Paediatric Physiotherapist, several therapy assistants and administration support.

Some flexibility in working hours will be required to meet the needs of the service and its users e.g. early evening groups. Although the service is based within the Central area it covers the whole of North Wales, and an element of home working would be possible for the successful applicant.

The role will include providing staff and trainee supervision within the service. The post holder will provide clinical placements and teaching to trainees on the North Wales Clinical Psychology Doctoral Programme, Bangor University.

If a candidate requires part time hours this will be an option available and can be discussed. In addition, a Job share maybe considered.

The successful candidate will be professionally managed within the structure of the BCUHB Child Health Psychology service and will be linked with other colleagues across this service. In addition to general clinical supervision, it is envisaged that appropriate specialist supervision will be sought.

Main duties of the job

Initial work will focus on building, and establishing the service across the region. Candidates must therefore have developed skills in clinical leadership and strategy implementation, and be capable of shaping the service delivery model alongside their MDT colleagues. There will also be the expectation that you will be involved in and support others in clinical governance, outcome measurement and service related research.

In this role you will be delivering a specialist weight management service at level 3 to children, young people, and their families. This will involve delivering a range of psychological assessment and therapeutic interventions at several levels and across systems. This will initially include some lower level group work alongside more specialist assessment and intervention work.

However, going forward we will also be seeking funding for an Assistant psychologist who would work with the Clinical Psychologist to provide lower level group input. A small amount of time within the full time role will be allocated to a speciality chosen by the successful candidate. This is to enable, and encourage, continuous development and/or pursuance of specific areas of personal interest within Child psychology. Examples maybe Generic Child Health Psychology, Research, Training, Child Learning Disability.
