You will be a key member of our management team, delivering a range of project work, alongside our Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and International Biodiversity specialists.

To succeed in this role, you must significant demonstrable experience of project managing complex ecology/biodiversity projects, including extensive BNG experience. You will have an appropriate BSc or equivalent qualification and be ready to apply your biodiversity conservation and ecology skills to assist in complex biodiversity work.

You will join our Ecosystem Solutions department

As our new Principal Biodiversity Consultant, you will be part of a progressive UK team of biodiversity specialists and be part of a larger team of scientists working within the Ecosystem Solutions service line. You will be responsible for the management of BNG and Environmental Net Gain projects, including management of strategic biodiversity projects, currently underway. You will work collaboratively with our colleagues in climate and wider sustainability, along with our machine learning and data scientists, to develop innovative client solutions.

Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Project manage BNG assessments on a range of development projects, including energy, road, rail and residential.
  • Oversee the liaison with ecologists, GIS, landscape specialists and the client to ensure the mitigation hierarchy can be delivered via development designs.
  • Review BNG analysis and technical reports, ensuring they meet BNG good practice standards.
  • Undertake technical assessments on complex strategic biodiversity or BNG projects.
  • Prepare fee proposals for BNG and strategic biodiversity projects.
  • Carrying out such additional duties as may reasonably be required in this role.

Your key deliverables over the first 12 months will be:

  • Key client contact and prominent member of the UK biodiversity team
  • Key member in the development of Nature Positive plans and in the delivery of the future Ecosystem Solutions business plan for 2022
  • Involvement in proposals for strategic biodiversity projects
  • Strong collaborator with climate and wider sustainability colleagues

  • Significant demonstrable experience of assessing BNG on a range of development projects, including transport schemes
  • Substantial experience of project managing complex ecology or biodiversity projects
  • Experience of training junior team members and other specialists (landscape, GIS, etc.) in BNG design and assessment
  • A solid understanding of Biodiversity Metric v2.0 and v3.0, preferably with experience of the Environmental Net Gain tools and metrics (EBNT and NATURE)
  • Evidence of advanced habitat survey/botanical knowledge would be an advantage
  • Good knowledge of relevant and emerging environmental/biodiversity policy, strategy and legislation
