Job Description: Pre-Clinical Scientist

Reports to: Pre-Clinical Study Leader

VQ Life Sciences are recruiting for a Permanent Pre-Clinical Scientist based in North Wales. This is to work within the pre-clinical department to deliver optimised pre-clinical formulations to clients on time and in full whilst demonstrating exceptional scientific and quality standards.

General: Day to Day Activities

  • Ensure all log books are maintained with excipients and test items booked in correctly.
  • Produce, review and update equipment and pre-clinical specific SOP’s as appropriate.
  • Ensure equipment is at a good state of repair and has been calibrated and maintained appropriately.
  • Maintain a high level of laboratory housekeeping.
  • Ensure sufficient stock levels of consumables, excipients and appropriate PPE are kept.
  • Check and review of other scientists work where required.
  • Upkeep and maintain personal training file.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the pre-clinical scientific team to ensure projects are delivered to a high standard and on time.
  • Manufacture and test formulations for pre-clinical studies.
  • Aid in the development of analytical methods for testing of small scale formulations.
  • Perform analytical testing – assay and dissolution.
  • Maintain accurate data and experimental records.
  • Comply with the health and safety requirements of the site.
  • Produce COSHH and Risk Assessments, in line with SOP’s.
  • Problem-solve and trouble-shoot applying scientific knowledge.
  • Participate in client meetings (on site and TCs) as required.
  • Act as an ambassador for the company, reflecting company and business values

Technical and Scientific Development

  • Contribute to the expansion of the department, creating/contributing ideas for new scientific platforms.
  • Contribute material for use in marketing, scientific papers and posters for presentations at scientific meetings.
  • Participate in Continuous Professional Development activities to further progress scientific knowledge, for example, by attending relevant symposia/conference meetings and to disseminate this information to other members of the Pre-clinical team.
  • Perform other duties in a pre-clinical scientific capacity as required by the business.

Desirable

First degree in Chemistry/Pharmaceutical Sciences
Y

Educated to Masters level with additional experience in formulation science/pharmaceutical sciences
Y

Good knowledge of formulation in a pharmaceutical setting
Y

Ability to work independently in a logical, methodical manner
Y

Eager to develop analytical knowledge and skills
Y

Excellent attention to detail required to produce high quality, accurate data
Y

Excellent communication skills

Good interpersonal and teamworking skills
Y

Ability to manage own time effectively against business priorities

Flexibility to work out of hours when required

Experience of a customer-facing role
