This role works with the Head of Public Relations and alongside one other PR Manager to manage and oversee the public relations function, with line management responsibility for a two PR Officers. The role is a hybrid of office and home working, requiring a minimum of two days a week at the London office, for some valuable team time!

Key functions include: providing leadership and inspiration to the PR team as a whole; a role in strategic planning; acting as a point of approval for some regional activities and press releases; working with the Head of Public Relations to develop and execute prominent and high impact national and regional campaigns.

The PR team plays a central role at Dogs Trust. We help people to know, love and understand the charity and take action to support the charity’s work. We use our understanding of Dogs Trust and audience need to produce impactful and creative on-brand communications, liaising with the media and celebrities, and engaging directly with our supporters. We also play a crucial role in evolving the digital supporter experience and use our internal communications expertise to communicate key messages to employees across Dogs Trust.

The PR team has a strong focus on media relations work – proactively selling stories into the media as well as reacting to enquiries, and ensuring we’re equipped to handle a crisis. We also lead on work with celebrities and TV programmes.

This role also plays an active part in the on-call rota for our out-of-hours press office function.

Day-to-day, you’ll be part of managing the PR function and team, alongside the Head of PR and one other PR Manager. This will include ensuring direct reports and the wider team deliver nationally and regionally; developing them as individuals and coaching them to achieve their objectives

You’ll lead on stand-alone PR stories and integrated campaigns, ensuring ideas are strategically-led, that content and messaging are on-brand, that we are getting our message out as widely as possible. You’ll work closely with colleagues in Strategic Comms to understand more about audiences, objectives and messaging to ensure our work is impactful and consistent.

We’re looking for a confident manager who has experience of managing and motivating a team. You’ll have significant experience of leading successful PR-driven stories, projects and campaigns, as well as experience of managing a press office function and media relations programme. The role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, and proven ability to be highly organised, managing your own workload and that of the team.

We’re looking for strong stakeholder management experience, as well as experience of managing budgets and agencies. This person needs to be creative, flexible, passionate about the cause and about delivering exciting, impactful work.
