Overall Job Purpose

The PR Manager plays a critical role in the small but busy PR team, building awareness of Vitality products and services with advisers, brokers, investors and businesses. Telling compelling stories about our products and services and highlighting our points of difference in the market, the PR Manager also drives both brand favourability and familiarity.

Supporting all of Vitality’s four business lines - health, life and car insurance and investments – the PR Manager builds relationships with journalists across insurance press, personal finance and HR titles to deliver message-rich media coverage that delivers on business priorities. He/She also works with the PR agency, to support the delivery of consumer PR activity.

The PR Manager is primarily responsible for generating media coverage but is also required to respond to reactive media enquiries to ensure opportunities are maximised and risks are well managed, supporting overall reputation management.

Accountabilities

With the other PR Manager, develop and deliver a creative and compelling trade PR strategy that aligns to key priorities for each business line.

Lead the trade PR for at least one business line, working independently with the business to provide advice and deliver on objectives.

Research and write interesting, relevant and compelling press releases and articles.

Build and maintain relationships with key journalists in relevant trade media titles and keep abreast of key topics of interest to capitalise on opportunities.

Support the delivery of B2B and B2C campaigns, led by the PR agency.

Build the media profile of senior business leaders providing appropriate briefings and support.

Manage incoming media queries, create appropriate and timely statements, working with the business.

Track and measure PR activity and provide campaign evaluation reports.

Support the social media and content team with copywriting.

Skills Required

Essential

Experience of working in PR, media or journalism within insurance or financial services.

Ability to work at pace and under pressure, juggling competing priorities.

Confidence to work independently and build relationships both inside the business and with journalists.

A proactive self-starter who can spot opportunities and bring ideas to the table.

An excellent writer with a keen eye for detail.

Experience of working within a press office for an organisation.

Ability to work with complex information and distil into PR angles that will attract media attention.

Experience of delivering media evaluation and reporting against PR plans and strategy.

Superior interpersonal skills, including experience of briefing, advising and supporting senior leaders.

Excellent team worker who can adapt quickly to the dynamics of the business.

Healthcare experience preferable.
