As PR & Comms executive at The Wave you will need to have a passion for bringing stories to life and the ability to inspire people to write and talk about what we are doing.


You will be part of the marketing team and will support the Senior PR and Comms Manager to develop and implement the PR plan, as part of the overarching cross-channel marketing strategy. You will be particularly responsible for the media and influencer liaison element of campaigns and expected to generate high-profile media coverage that communicates our core purpose, highlights our brand values and helps maintain a positive public image for The Wave.


WHAT YOU’LL BE UP TO

  • Support the Senior PR and Comms Manager to develop impactful PR campaigns that communicate The Wave’s brand values.
  • Implement media relations elements of PR campaigns e.g. placement of news stories, features, blogs, interviews and broadcast opportunities regarding The Wave.
  • Develop and distribute press releases.
  • Secure press trips and handle the associated admin/logistics and liaise with all relevant departments at The Wave to ensure the trip runs smoothly.
  • Influencer engagement – identify relevant influencers, secure interest, handle logistics for visits and liaise with all relevant departments at The Wave to ensure the trip runs smoothly.
  • Speaking opportunities – research and secure relevant speaking opportunities for the senior team.
  • Handle the admin associated with speaking ops e.g. providing biogs/images and capture all relevant info in speaking ops log.
  • Work with partner press offices (e.g. Rip Curl, Dryrobe, Surfing England, Visit Bristol) to maximise opportunities, provide content / pictures / quotes, sign off copy regarding The Wave and amplify brand messaging.
  • Manage the press cuttings service – share coverage with team, collate coverage table including of reach and value figures. Help with end of year evaluation of PR activity.
  • Manage requests for on-site photography and filming – review applications and feedback to Senior PR and Comms Manager for sign off and log all requests.
  • Incident management – support Senior PR and Comms Manager with handling media comms during an incident, as needed.

It is essential that our chosen Wavemaker will have 2+ years’ experience in a PR agency or an in-house PR department.


SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Excellent media relations skills and experience
  • Track record of securing and managing press and influencer trips
  • Brilliant telephone manner: You will spend a lot of your time pitching stories to journalists, so you need to have the confidence to pick up the phone and speak to them, maintaining a positive and friendly tone
  • Excellent copy-writing skills
  • Good time-management skills
  • Attention to detail
  • A creative thinker
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Proactive and energetic approach
  • Ability to prioritise based on team goals and key milestones
  • An interest in surfing and Blue Health is advantageous but not essential
