Hockerwood Eggs Ltd are looking to recruit a full-time operative to work weekdays. The business supplies Noble Foods with 15 million eggs a year from 43000 Free Range hens. Hockerwood Eggs Ltd is an award winning (RSPCA Assured award in 2021) and high performing supplier to Noble Foods and therefore expect high standards to be adhered to.

This position is in a modern free range unit with equipment installed in 2017 managing nearly 27000 birds.

The hours are 8-3.30pm Monday to Friday. There is flexibility in these days if a promising applicant can only work four days a week.

Essential Job Functions

· Daily Welfare checks of birds and equipment on all levels of tiered system. Daily records to be taken and recorded.

· Monitoring health and welfare of the flock and routine welfare management

· Removal of floor eggs several times a day from house. Eggs then sorted and washed.

· Egg packing using a Prinzen packing machine onto plastic trays (totaling an average 25000 eggs/day depending on stage of lay)

· As birds are coming into lay, regular walks are undertaken to pick up floor eggs

· Cleaning of egg packing machine, floor and surfaces after egg packing is complete

Requirements

· Have the physical attributes to lift fifteen dozen eggs (approx. 12kg) at a time.

· Be able to handle live and dead stock

· Diligent in the recording of daily records

· Understand the importance of biosecurity and to come to work in clothes and footwear that have not at any time been in contact with other poultry.

· Quick to learn and have initiative

· Numerate in basic maths skills and literate in order to communicate effectively

· Comfortable in a lone working position

Other Information

· Training will be given on all aspects of the role (including Lion compulsory training)

· There may be the opportunity for extra hours during the year./

· The employee will receive the statutory holidays

· Tea and lunch breaks will be agreed at the start of the contract.

· There will be a three month probationary period before a permanent contract is agreed to.

· Permanent on site support and back up
