Summary of Role
This position is funded for 36 months by a CRUK multi-disciplinary grant titled ‘Understanding the impact of spatial dose modulations on toxicity and tumour response in lung radiotherapy’.
The main task will be the development of a pre-clinical irradiation platform for micro-beam therapy, which accounts for breathing induced organmotion by gated dose delivery. Starting point are our current CCI technologies, like the micro-beam cell irradiator [1] and the SARRPsystem (xstrahl). The most important components of this research are the development/implementation of: i) an electronically driven micro-beam collimator system, ii) reliable organ motion sensor technology iii) feedback loop for gated dose delivery triggered by motion sensor signals. The project will be performed in direct collaborations with partners in clinical oncology/immunotherapy and radiation biology. On the technical side we are collaborating closely with the Department of Medical Physics at the Technical University in Munich (TUM).
