The Opportunity


The Joint Design Office (JDO) was created by EDF to reinforce Hinkley Point C’s (HPC) site-based engineering capability to allow for a quicker response to on site engineering queries and problems. Among its main aims, the JDO is committed to managing the changes to Civil, Mechanical and Electrical design during construction according to safety, quality, schedule and cost.


As a Plant Layout Engineer within the JDO, you’ll have the responsibility of supporting the construction of the European Pressurised Reactors (EPR’s) at HPC, by providing engineering assessments and technical solutions relating to the layout scope.

The Role


You’ll support the Layout Team Lead in the delivery of the layout programme, working closely with the Responsible Designer and the client (HPC) and it’s contractors in MEH, Equipment and Civil.

Specifically, you’ll be accountable for:


  • Supporting the construction of the two EPR’s on HPC
  • Liaising with design teams producing technical assessments and solutions
  • Assessing and listing the impacts of the site change on the layout design and on all other disciplines (Piping, HVAC, Electrical, Steelwork and Civil)
  • Opening the dedicated change process to launch the implementation of the impacts
  • Reporting achievements, progress and difficulties to the Layout Discipline Lead and additionally raising alerts on any aspects of the design when identified
  • Contributing to the closure of design open points after the delivery of design packages to site

The Skills


To be successful in this role, you’ll be able to demonstrate the following:


  • Degree qualified or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline
  • Good knowledge and understanding of general layout rules for an industrial project
  • Experience in one or several areas of engineering: layout, piping engineering, mechanical, HVAC, safety, etc
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills


Desirable:


  • Knowledge of the general operation of a nuclear power station and the associated safety aspects (in particular, aspects relating to flooding, fire, radiological protection, high energy line ruptures, etc)
