The Planning Manager plans, schedules and coordinates materials including raw materials, purchase parts, and in-process materials to support production/delivery requirements for customer orders. Develops detailed schedules, material requirement plans, production plans, capacity plans and warehousing plans whilst tracking the status of material inventories and shortages through the Purchasing Team.

Role Purpose / Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Fully utilise the ERP system (Syteline) to support a robust manufacturing plan
  • Fully utilise Syteline APS to produce a master schedule for production and monitor progress through Plan v Actual statistics
  • Responsible for On-Time Delivery of manufactured components ensuring a balance between support of inventory and cost savings business objectives.
  • Responsible for Stores / Warehousing Management
  • Remove material flow constraints through long term sustainable corrective actions and solutions.
  • Leads, develops and manages Kanban/Supermarket systems.
  • Integrates with external customers on supply chain process improvements.
  • Leads WIP reduction efforts whilst maintaining 100% availability to assembly operations and achieving inventory turn targets.
  • Leverage Lean business solution methodologies to ensure processes are well defined, documented and provide Best in Class results.
  • Resolves ERP system related issues and ensures the integrity of the database.
  • Implements supply and demand changes and incorporates engineering changes in a timely fashion.
  • Reconcile negative inventory balances, issues with in-transits and invoice issues, obsolescence, and related transactions.
  • Work closely and coordinate efforts with Engineering, Operations, Finance, Sourcing, and Sales.
  • Support sales in planning the launch of new products.
  • Report and resolve customer service issues promptly.
  • Support overall Plant Management team in various analyses and other tasks.
  • Working experience and understanding of ISO requirements.

Leadership

  • Create and maintain a positive and motivating team working environment
  • Prioritise and allocate workload within the team setting goals and objectives for team members
  • Plan, track, analyse and monitor KPIs for the team and day to day activities as well as longer term objectives
  • Provide feedback and support through regular effective regular recorded one to ones, annual appraisals, performance reviews
  • Be an approachable first point of contact for, and manage, all performance, attendance, disciplinary and welfare issues within which might arise within the team.
  • Support employee development through identification of skills gaps and future requirements promote multi skilling
  • Participate in internal/ external audits to ensure compliance with all purchasing policies
  • Contribute fully as a member of the Site Management team.

Stores Management

  • Own and lead the warehouse team to meet safety, quality and delivery requirements for the business
  • Maintain stock accuracy and continue to develop Plan for Every Part initiative with the planning team.
  • Optimise the material receipt, storage and issue processes, utilising ERP and barcode technology to improve efficiencies
  • Implement and improve KPIs for stores management to ensure production requirements and enabling stores persons to work autonomously.
  • Responsible for raw material and slow-moving inventory balances. Will be tasked with developing reduction strategy in order to increase inventory turns
  • Promote 5S practices and philosophy

Continuous Process Improvement

  • Manage and continuously review documented procedures to ensure they are accurate and up to date and meet the business requirements.
  • Study benchmark operations and select methods that bring step-change improvements. Once identified create business justifications to management team
  • Participate in internal/ external audits to ensure compliance with all planning and warehousing policies.

Skills And Experience

  • Fluency and proficiency in the practical application of ERP/MRP logic, scheduling logic, order policies, capacity planning, input/output control, product structures, routings, shop floor control, and product family manufacturing strategies. Experience with Infor-Syteline ERP Operating System and Syteline APS software
  • Must provide excellent customer service, internally and externally to the organisation.
  • Experience of building, developing and managing teams
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a team player and have sound judgment and analytical abilities.
  • Must have strong attention to detail with proven capabilities in handling multiple priorities.
  • Intermediate/advanced Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Word and Powerpoint
  • Demonstrated experience in leading change using lean principles such as 5S, Lean Manufacturing, and Total Quality Management.

Qualifications:

  • HNC/HND or degree in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience of production planning in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of people management or team leading experience.
