To be responsible for ensuring all phlebotomy/treatment room assistant duties are performed effectively and to the required standard, meeting the objectives of the practice. Support the operations manager in promoting equality and diversity, quality, confidentiality, collaborative working, service delivery, learning and development and carry out other duties as directed by the operations manager. Primary Responsibilities The following are the core responsibilities of the phlebotomist/treatment room assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels.

Performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients only as the result of a direct referral from a GP or hospital request. Check the identity of the patient and confirm which tests are required. Check diary entry to identify any tests that may be due. Ensure that patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.

To collect a sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures. Ensure samples are stored in appropriate containers Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity. Record the collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure. Ensure samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.

Ensure that any anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff Notifying the GP/Nurse of any significant patient issues. Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team. Conduct new patient health checks. Take and record patient BP when required or if outstanding on QOF box.

Chaperoning duties. Ordering and maintenance of surgery equipment. Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring, and recording. Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking consulting rooms.

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations in accordance with infection control procedures. Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being. Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual. Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted.

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being. Secondary Responsibilities In addition to the primary responsibilities, the phlebotomist/treatment room assistant may be requested to: Cooperate with the Lead Nurse in the coordination of clinical duties. Provide services across both Partnership sites to ensure adequate cover for holiday and sickness absences and assist with room occupancy capacity. Partake in audit as directed by the audit lead Attend practice meetings when required Complete mandatory training when required Build and maintain positive relationships within the practice Practice Standards to be embodied by all employees: 1.
