PHARMACY PIPC CHECKING TECHNICIAN (BAND 5)

An exciting opportunity to join the busy Pharmacy Technical Services Department has arisen at Cheltenham General Hospital. This post is based at Cheltenham General Hospital but may involve some cross site working at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. As part of the 3 Counties Cancer Network (3 CCN), our aseptic services unit prepares chemotherapy for patients from Gloucestershire and the surrounding area, including involvement in a variety of clinical trials. The unit also compounds adult and neonatal PN for both sites. The Manufacturing Unit currently holds a specials’ license to produce a range of aseptic and pre-pack/overlabelled items.

We have a vacancy for a skilled, motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician who is ready to take on an exciting post within the busy Technical Services Department at Cheltenham General Hospital.
Candidates will need a BTEC and NVQ 3 in pharmaceutical services (or equivalent) and be registered with The General Pharmaceutical Council.
We would consider an experienced Band 4 Technician without PIPC with the potential to progress to Band 5 upon completion of PIPC training . A minimum of six months aseptic experience in current aseptic unit within the 12 months prior to commencing the PIPC course .

Main duties of the job ;

  • To dispense , using aseptic technique , cytotoxic intravenous additives , cytotoxic syringes , adult and neonatal Total Parental Nutrition (TPN ) infusions and occasionally aseptic batches of syringes and eye drops.
  • To complete worksheets, assemble raw materials and generate labels for all aseptically prepared products.
  • To receive cytotoxic prescriptions , perform pre and in process checks on raw materials ,labels and worksheets.
  • To perform pre and in process checks in TPN and pre packing areas.
  • To print and complete all paperwork checks on TPN prescriptions.
  • Participate in regular stock checks .

To assist in the training of new staff members, and to provide on-going support and training to all Technical Services staff. Provide accredited checking cover within the manufacturing unit to provide a high level of pharmaceutical care.
